Technically, it has 361lbs of torque not 400. And it weighs 900 lbs more then a GS so it should have more torque.
I don't know the top end of the 750 but it is a high 14/15 sec car in it's stock form. Doesn't sound like its gonna blow away a GS4. But I don't own one so I can't be sure of that.
Only thing I am sure of is that a 2001 750IL costed almost $100k. Thats a C-5 and a GS4.

28,500 is kinda cheap for '00 740iL...but 83,000 miles on it, that's a whole lotta driving. You gotta think about reliability with that much miles on it.
You can find a '99 or '00 GS4 for about the same price and have a lot less miles on it.
IMO, you should look around for a GS4 if your price range is 28,500 because I don't think you'll find too many 740iL's for that price...
Aloha

That is a lot of miles. I've heard that when BMWS hit 80k they will need lots of maintenance. But then again, it's in such a short period of time one knows it must be highway miles. $28k is a pretty good price.
Oh, and make sure it has a good title.

from my experience, bmws with those kind of miles usually frequent trip to the tech guys..and the repair bills are a LOT...for the GS....you go to the dealers for bottled water, tea and free cookies and chat a little with your tech guy.....not necessarily for repairs..

lexus gs 3/4x0 is more sporty then bmw 740/750.. when bmw is more classy
so i guess it's back to your taste .. if you young then I would probably suggest you lexus, if you old(er) and more like very seriouse, business that kind of stuff then probably bmw..
both of those cars are sure very nice i can tell you that much

2000 BMW 740i with the sports pacakge looks awesome. If you do get it, make sure to buy an aftermarket warranty to protect yourself from expensive repairs. www.warrantybynet.com or there are many other sites. Also make sure the title is clean. Lexus is more reliable but $28500 for a 00' 740i is a very good price. You can get many Lexus GS for around that price but 00' 740i bimmers are usually in the $40k price range, at least in my area.

I think it's great that BMW can make their big beemer feel smaller then it actually is.

the sport package has the 18 M rims, right??? It looks pretty slick, but put 18s on the GS and it also looks pretty slick. I think the 740 looks alittle outdated because that design has been around since 1995.
But to tell you the truth, even with all that said, i would still prolly go with the 740.
Good luck in deciding. hard decision.

don't buy bmw. my transmission mechanic tells me that you can't change the oil in bmw's transmission(except the old ones) and once they hit over 100k, you mite be looking to put in a new one. bmw calls it their "infinite transmission oil" that never needs replacing. bahahaah, yeah right!
