Just purchased a 00 GS300! A few questions....smooth ride & vibrating wheel
Just purchased a 2000 GS300 with 122K. Paid $5,700, don't know if it was high or low. Excellent condition, just one outside scratch. Full service records (more money in service than I paid for the car!, every thing has been changed, pads, balljoints, timing belt, water pump at necessary times [90K service, 120K service, etc]).
Prior, I had a 93' GS with 302K, just sold( in less than two days), was crying when it went. It was quite a car, but had to get something a bit newer.
Anyways I have a few questions concerning the 2G GS.
Is the ride smoother on the older 1ST GEN GS300? It seems as the 2G is more sportier yet I feel EVERY bump on the road. My 1st gen was SMOOTH.
The lower front ball joints were changed at 107K (on the 2G).
When I brake in the GS the wheel has some vibration. The woman I bought the car from said that when she asked the dealer about this it was because it was sitting for a year. I always thought that it meant it needed new pads.
The car received new front pads at 70K and back pads at 112K.
Is there anything else that could be causing the wheel to vibrate when the brake is applied (at speeds above 20-25)
If the car needs new pads would it be beneficial to get it done at the Lexus dealer to keep up with it's service there or a local guy?
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

The front pads may well be shot, given that they're only supposed to be good for 20-30K and have 50+K on them. I'd look at those first, then any warpage. When the wheels are off, it's very easy to see which is the case. You can use a straightedge on both sides of the rotor to see if they're true, then measure them. It's a VERY easy job to replace the pads or the rotors, with minimal hand tools. You do not need to take this to a dealer. Parts should be right around $120 with new pads AND new front rotors if need be.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds great, I'm happy that it wasn't something MAJOR.
I've replaced pads, rotors, and calipers before but wasn't sure if that was the main source of the problem. I just checked them and they'll need resurfacing but I'll just replace them.
I'm excited for this car!
And just one more question- Is the ride on this car considered smoother than the 1st gen GS? I don't think that the brake problem would have an effect on the ride. I just feel that on my 93 GS the ride was MUCH smoother and I didn't feel nearly the amount of bumps and road junk that I do now.

That is an excellent deal for a 2000. Post some pics when you can.
Your old GS may have had a smoother ride in a small part due to smaller rims but that is assuming a lot. Usually the sportier the suspension the more bumps you will feel also...
