Angry First Service Experience

I just picked up my GS430 from the dealer today...since i purchased it used there were a couple things they owed me...such as repair lower part of from bumper and fix two rims which were damaged. It was raining when i picked it up...i got it home and looked it over closely for any scratches etc. What i found almosty gave me a heart attack....the entire hood and almost the entire left side of the car had something on the paint which made it feel like sand paper (well almost). I polished this car twice and waxed it with Meguires and the paint was like glass all the way around when i took it in. Does anyone know what this could be? maybe overspray in the shop?? Funny thing is i cant really see what the substance is...i tried to take it out with swirl remover and a re-polish which helped a little but really seemed to just cover it. IDEAS??? I immediately called Lexus before they closed and they will be calling me tomorrow morning.

Man I gotta tell you, you sound really up tight. I think you're going to have a rough relationship with ANY dealer.

I saw your other thread about expecting a free nav update. After they've sold you the car they're under no obligation to do anything special for you that they wouldn't also do for other customers.

As far as the paint finish now feeling rough, maybe it's not the dealer - maybe you parked it somewhere and got tree sap or something else on the car and didn't realize?

Try clay bar, it should clean up your paint real nice.

Default clay

Clay bar will not help if it scratches. I guess you need some abrasive polishers like 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound. This stuff can remove scratches from 1200 grit sandpaper.

Bitkahuna...im not uptight at all....i thought this was a board for sharing info....fact is i still have an outdated NAV system and after two days of leaving my car at service i have some substance on 1/2 of my car...maybe that is cool with you since it is not your car...actually i was pretty upset about it...

Marc,

You have every right to expect and demand 'World Class' service from Lexus. If they expect to compete against other up scale euro cars they need to make your service experience a positive one.

With respect to your paint surface problem I would point it out to your Service Advisor. Remind him/her that it wasn't there prior to you bringing the car in for their service. If they want your continuing business I'm sure they'll offer to detail your car. If not, either talk to the Service Department Mgr. or write them off and move on to another Lexus dealer.

Hope the rest of your Lexus ownership is smoother.

MR GS400,

Thanks for the reply...hopefully they will help me out tomorrow...this whole thing was a bummer considering i spent hours polishing and waxing the car after i got it....seems they must have parked it under a tree or something...the heat here today and yesterday was around 100 degrees so maybe it is tree sap..whatever it is it didnt happen when i had it as it sits in the garage

Cool

I had an experience even worse than that last week. When I picked up my GS430 after the 30,000 Service, the whole front end looked like it was sand blasted! (see earlier threat) But the dealer told me to contact my insurance company and they would pay my deductible. My insurance company said the type of damage that occurred would not effect my insurance rates. Handled it like a cracked windshield type of claim. They are painting my car now and they gave me a new GS300 to drive to the repairs are done. Be nice to the dealer and I am sure they will work something out.
