What is the New Car Smell on the GS Really?
I almost forgot what the new car smell is like. While I am getting my GS430 Painted my dealer gave me a brand new GS300. It had less than 60 miles on it. Could the smell be the leather tanning they use and could that be toxic? It is a real sweet smell. Might have been worse if it was a BMW

I believe the "new car smell" is caused by the glue they use to install the carpet. My mom had new carpet put in her old car and it smelled brand spankin' new. I wouldn't go sniffing it for too long though

if u dont mind me asking? why are u getting ur car painted?? Another thing, the new car smell is actually from the plastics they release a fume which is the new car smell, I heard it isn't good for u, but the fumes will get on the windows of a brand new car after a couple months, people tell me though that my car still smells brand new and I think it's because I use Lexol conditioner every so often and after that u can really smell the leather,

well...... do u smoke? if u do, then what u should do is Quit smoking in ur car, Clean up all ur leather, use vinylex or whatever it's called, and get ur car's carpet shampooed, even the trunk, and after that regular cleaning and conditioning will keep the car smelling like leather

u know one thing I don't understand about Lexus's is why they make the paint so thin, and cheap, becaues I've never seen a car that gets pit marks easier then my GS, my moms 93 infiniti G20 has less pit marks and I mean it has probably ten or twelve on the hood and my GS has like 50 tiny ones so far, I wonder why that is....? and the infiniti has been over a hundred mph so it isn't my speed that does it.... even BMW and Mercedez have awsome paint but lexus doesn't do a good job, what im getting at is if they were to repaint the hood of a car, would it hold up better then the factory paint job did? thanks

Lexus paint used to be the best. Then in 96 they said you couldn't use the plastic and stuff they were putting in the paint, so it became alot thinner and easier to chip. But, if you want a neutral smell, most car detailers have a car bomb that is supposed to clear all smells out of the car. Looks like a hand gernade.
