Default First Gen How to clear Rear Turn Signals *Tutorial*

Hey guys, i have been recieving a few private messages on how to clear out the rear turn signals. so i decided to finally show you guys how to clear them out. well here is how.

Time: 45min-2 hours. leave yourself with a lot of time.

Materials. Heat gun, or oven at 350 F. 10 mm socket with extension, flat head screw driver, phillips screw driver, Clear or black Silicon. and some skillz.

1. First open your trunk and look where the outer break lights are from the inside. there should be 4 small 1 inch round cover on each side.

2. pop those cover out with your hands.

3. get a 10mm with socket extension and remove the 4 nuts on each side. after you remove the 4 on each side of the car just wiggle the rear break light assembly and it should come right out.

4. turn the 3 bulbs counter clockwise and remove the assembly from the car.

here is where it gets a little hard.

5. you have 2 options in the next step. option #1 place assembly in over at 350F for 10 minutes. or #2 use the heat gun to heat up 1 side of the assembly at a time and SLOWLY pull it apart. i personally used the heat gun method.

6. if you use the heat gun method try to start from the flat side first and slowly get it to open. after that. when you get to the curve end of the assembly make sure you don't pull the cover outwards. it comes out straight just like the flat area. if you try to pull the cover outwards at the curve part of the assembly you will crack it. TAKE YOUR TIME. also don't ever hold the heatgun in one place. always keep it moving. mark 5 inches and keep moving the heat gun back and forth. this step should take you around 20-30 minutes each side. it takes a while. don't give up.

7. once you get it open everything is just self explanitory. there is 2 small phillip head screws that hold in the orange lens. just remove the 2 screws and the orange lens pop out. for those of you that tried to break it with out opening up the assembly you will now understand why you couldn't. the orange piece is very sturdy and pretty thick.

8. the next step is to ensure a tight closure so no moisture gets in. take your heat gun or stick both pieces back in the oven so it softens up the glue and silicon and take the flat head screw driver and scape out ALL of the old silicon and glue. when i say ALL i mean ALL of it. make sure its super clean and no old glue or silicon is left over. after that get your new bottle of silicon and fill up the entire parimeter of your assembly and push it slowly back together.

9. MUST DO THIS. now place the assembly facing down on a table and place about 10 books on top of the assembly for about 10-15 minutes so it kind of dries.

10. DONE. the stock bulbs are clear so when you turn on your blinkers they will be clear and really white now. if you want them SUPER white i highly recomend Polargs. they are super super blindind white light. it looks very nice.

11. try now to wash your car in the next 24 hours. it takes 24 hours for the glue to dry.

Good luck everyone. if anyone needs help on a particular step please just ask and i will try to reexplain it. and i'm not responsible for your mistakes. do this at your own risk.
