Sorry to bring back a old thread but the same thing just happened to my buddys 1999 gs400 except the burn hole was under his right butt cheek. We pulled the heater element out and saw it was shorted. we twisited it back together where the short is and now it works fine again.

I was wondering same. Whats the process to peel the upholstery back? Maybe should do a DIY for this since it seems like a common issue.

i dunno....im in the process of my black interior swap so i dont care ATM that it doesnt work. when/if i finish my swap i will take a look at it. it will be awhile though
