DIY Fuel pump change 98 GS400
Is there anywhere with this info and with pics? Also I was looking a walbro pump for it and its cheaper than denso. Walbro pumps are used all the time in performance applications and are very reliable. I was wandering if it is alot of work to install in my car or is it basicly same as the denso. It says it comes with kit to install it. Also will the walbro cause any problems with the ECU or anything being its a high output?

Don't quote me on this but I seem to recall some 1st Gen people saying that the Walbro was louder (more noticeable) b/c it was heavier duty. Also I think the above thread talks about another easy to fix issue with voltage (maybe Walbro wont work on low volt setting so you have to permanently jump ECU to get 12V all the time?). I cant even recall. Good luck. Go the 'back seat' route as opposed to trying to get at it from the trunk.

i didn't jump any setting on mine. just took the hanger apart. If you're a DIY kind of guy, just read the filter part, take a look at the hanger. There's tabs that you pry softly on to take the whole thing apart. I took it apart and look at it for awhile then figured out how to put it back together.

From my DSM racing days:
• Walbro is DEFINITELY louder than Denso
• highest volume/quietest pump is the Denso from a Supra Turbo

update: I replaced the pump with a aftermarket one that wouldnt work with the factory plug but came with a plug that had to be spliced in. I did this with butt connectors with electrical tape wrapped around it.and had to coil the wire around in hanger a bit being it was longer. I put it all back together and she fired right up. I drove around about 7 miles and it was fine. My wife drove it yesterday and said all was well until a little later when it died and wouldnt restart. I had it towed to the house. I checked everything out and either my connection came loose or the cheap pump I bought went bad in about 15miles. lol. Here is what i have checked so far. I checked to see if i was getting current to pump and was getting what 10volts like before. so its saying turn on pump but it isnt. I unhooked fuel line with pump plugged in and crossed my firngers right before i turned key to on. Nothing came out thank god! I took my cheap harbor freight meter that only goes down to 200 ohms and checked resistance on the pump. I got a 1.5, but it was bouncing around. I was told if it was 0.5 to 3 ohms it was good pump. And if i had a short would i get a reading at all. Tell me what you all think of this.

Ok thx. I got it out and just its damn pump. My connection was good. And pump is showing 50 ohms right at pump. I guess thats what I get for buying the cheap 43 dollar performance electric pump. Hard to believe it didn't last a day . I think I may just buy whole assembly with pump and all off of ebay for 100 bucks. Then just drop in bolt down and plug and go. Anybody know if I go this rout will my gas gauge be accurate being I will have new float and all
