Carson is legit because they're a dealer so you can't go wrong with them.
I usually piece together my own parts since I know who makes the OEM parts, and I end up saving at least $150. Some people don't really want the hassle of hunting around so the price difference is negligible.

I went to the local Toyota dealer today and ordered everything but the waterpump (he didn't show one on his parts screen). I may just go to the Lexus dealer and get one. The belt, idler and tensioner were comparably priced to the online Lexus dealers. Same parts than the Lexus dealer, but cheaper. Go figure. As an example, the Lexus dealer wanted $31 for a gallon of the pre-diluted Toyota coolant. A gallon of the same stuff, concentrated, was $26 at the Toyota dealer. The only downside to the Toyota dealer is that they had to get them from the warehouse and it will take a day (big deal). When I pick them up, I'll probably pick up a case of the T-IV trans fluid and do six drain-and-fills (driving between each, of course) on Saturday to refresh the transmission. I'm sure it will also be cheaper than the Lexus dealer, with no question regarding OEM or not. By the way, I really like my new (to me) GS300.

How hard is the timing belt to replace itself? I have a 2001 GS430 and when we were going into at least look at the timing belt, it's encased in a round type cylinder under the plastic type engine cover and it states something on it, do not remove, see service manual, with a picture.
So we didn't open that cover. It seems like the timing belt must be pretty small then, if it fit's in that round casing. Obviously, I don't know a lot about this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

If you are afraid to open the cover, then don't even think about doing it yourself. My advice is to call a Toyota dealer for a price on the job. Stay away from the Lexus dealers. They must figure (probably correctly, in many cases) that Lexus owners have more money than sense. I was at the Toyota dealer today picking up my parts, and they gave me a price on a timing belt service that was half (HALF!) of the Lexus dealer.
