Default Looking at a 2001 GS430

What's up CL! I am looking at this 2001 GS430 Millennium sliver with black interior and navigation. Mileage is 137xxx. Guy is asking 8000. I ran a car fax and the car had two owners came up all clean even was serviced at Lexus the majority of its life. I am going to be taking it to the local lexus dealer for them to inspect it just to make sure. Is there anything I should have an eye out for? as I am new to the Lexus scene. So far what I have read concerning reliability is that these cars are flawless. Any input would be appreciated. Here are some pics, is the price about right for this car? should I offer less? I really want this car as they are rare to find my way. thanks in advance guys!

Hard to tell from the low-res pictures in what shape the car really is. It appears to be pretty clean, but even high-res pics can hide flaws... I'm just saying...

Reliability of these cars is good if maintenance has been performed according to the manual. If the car is not too far from you, you should drive up there and see it in person.

I don't know what GS430 are selling for in the US, but I would think 8000 is a reasonable price.

8k is actually very low for a 2001 gs430 with that low mileage and all its service records, something doesn't sit right with me on this....

BTW remember carfax ONLY shows what shops claim if someone repaired it themselves it wont show.

take it to the dealer and have them inspect it for like $200 they can/will look it over

Yeah that's what struck me off too, I thought it was the mileage but I guess it's not that high for a GS. Maybe since they are the third owner?

im the third owner of my 2001 gs430, i bought it in Nov of 2007 and it had 62k on it, i JUST rolled 124000 on mine this month (i was actually really pissed i missed the picture opportunity for 123456 mileage). the mileage on the one your looking at isnt terribly high but IF it has all maintenance up to date and has service records FROM a dealership this price is way to low IMHO and something smells funny about it.

as i said you can take it a to lexus dealership and they can/will inspect it for like $200 or so, although i doubt they will tear into the engine so that will still be a mystery

Thanks for your input sakataj. so far the car fax shows that owners one and two regularly had the vehicle taken to Lexus to be serviced so that's a slight relief. The only thing that worries me is that the new owner has only had the car since October in which it had 136xxx on it. The local dealer is going to do the inspection for me at 99 dollars. Then I will inspect all the body Vin tags, check for rust, bondo, paint etc. to make sure the clean accident title stands true. I just hope they can determine if the engine and tranny are in good shape.

Ha, I remember when I got my GS in Oct of 07 with 60k, and thinking when you joined... we had like identical cars. Now 3 years lata, they're both significantly different beasts. You put a few extra miles on the odo though, I'm only at 109k now

Thats a really good deal , make sure you get someone worthy to take a good look at it, and if the owner refuses then move on to the next one.

well they always start the same but eventually we get to that fork in the road and most people pick different paths.i wouldn't say they are significantly different though, once i put on my parts im stock piling they will be almost the same. i even redoing my stereo yet again

I'm seeing a pretty large red flag here.

-Price is waaaaaaay too low for what it is

-A crapload of unnecessary pics, only 1 or 2 that show the outside of the car/body

-It's dirty, usually means they're trying to hide something or didn't take care of the car

Go ahead and take a look at it though. It's at your discretion since you're the potential buyer...

I agree that the price does seem a little low. Everyone wants to make a profit when selling a car unless they are very desperate or hiding something.

Becareful because fixing these cars can get expensive. Good luck with your purchase.

where is this car currently located? and im assuming it is a private seller... something does seem fishy about this deal since the car can still fetch over 10k... try to dig into the seller a bit and find out why they are selling the car... maybe they are moving and trying to unload it quick... or with the winter coming up, they need something for snow... the response can trigger some thoughts as to why this car is priced the way it is... but DEF take it to Lexus and have it checked out... if all things are a go, this car is a steal... and i thought my GS was a bargain...
