Dealer put 215/45-17 on GS300???
I took my 2002 GS300 in for service and decided to get the tires replaced at the dealership. Normally I just order my tires from tirerack and have them installed. I had OEM 17" from a GS430 with 235/45-17. The dealer put 215/45-17 and said that this is what the factory recommends for the 2002 GS300. Now that doesn't seem right. I can understand the dealer sticking to OEM for legal reasons.
I know the stock for the IS300 is 215/45-7, not the GS. What are the pros and cons for sticking with 215/45 vs 235/45.
Appreciate your input.

I think the dealer has it wrong. No way Lexus specs too different set of tires for the same OEM 17" wheel. Get 235/45 17s
Off topic I have 225/45s on a different set of 17s and it's fine (gs400)

as far as i know the GS3 did not come with 17s. maybe it did as a dealers option but not directly from lexus as per Owners manual.
maybe the dealer got confused with the car model and wheel size and came up with that crazy combo. either way, did you ask which tires, brand, sizes they were going to use or did you just say replace tires and assumed they were gonna put the correct size?
PS. Stay away from that dealership as they dont seem to have common sense
Stock sizes for
GS3 are 215/60/16 or 225/55/16
GS4 are 225/55/16 or 235/45/17
Stretching/hella flush aside, 215 is small for a 8 inch wheel but could be gained in profile, but in this case they stayed with 45. you will notice a difference in handling and comfort

If i was in your position, i'd definitely want my original tire size for the oem 17", when i dropped off my car at the shop.
For example:
If i was in your situation and dropped off my car at the shop, and told the shop i want new tires, i'd expect them to advise me of the discrepancy of the tire size (old vs. new) before working on my car.
Did you get a good deal on the tires?
You are pretty much rollin on IS300 tires, which has the same motor, though i am quite certain that our GS300's are heavier then IS300's.... by how much, i do not know.
I agree with ****-adkt, you will definitely notice difference in handling...

You should go back to the dealership. Ask for replacement and get your money worth. Even dealerships make mistakes too. Watch out if the tires are too slim. Won't support enough for the big GS..
