I have a bit of an issue when changing rear diff oil. The bolt is on there so tightly that I need to use a breaker bar to get it off. But I can't get the car up high enough to use the bar, it hits the ground before putting any meaningful force on the bolt. Have you guys managed to change this oil before in a garage setup? All the posts about it say "loosen the bolts"... err.... right I'm unbolting it to the LEFT (I know what you're thinking!), using a 1 foot wrench, and it won't move. I've gone under the car feet first from the rear, pushed with my feet while also pushing with my hands over my head against a wall. Still won't move. I've used PB Blaster, nothing. I'm a bit sore from doing this. So, i got a breaker bar, but I can't get the car high enough to get the bar under it. Other that getting an impact wrench, any tips?
what about breaker bar in horizontal position, then use the spare tire jack and jack it up. never tried this. just a thought
I'm using a floor jack, gets the car nice and high. But it's not high enough for a 3 foot breaker bar. I tried putting a brick and a piece of wood on the claw for the jack before i jacked the car up, still wasn't high enough!@#
^ True dat... I had to use an extended pipe and it was already tough. It was creaking like a mother when i was trying to get it off lol. You would need to put it on a lift though. GL.

i was thinking jacking the breaker bar. more leverage, maybe?
Jacking the breaker bar sounds like a solution. Try and wirebrush some rust of the bolts. Also make sure, you get the "fill" bolt off first and then the "flush" bolt.

++1 Definitely loosen the "fill" plug first, so you don't drain it and then find out you can't fill it back up.
Maybe it's the wrong tool for the job. You have a 12" and a 36" breaker bar? My 18" bar popped it off w/ no problem in my garage with the rear just lifted a bit.

do you have any long extensions? i used a impact gun with a long extension i think have u tried putting a pipe over the shorter breaker bar try to fit the breaker bar on first at a good spot and pull down on it. mine was tight too but i got it
Jack the car up and put something under the wheels so it doesn't fall over. Then setup your wrench so you can leverage it with your foot while sitting on the ground. You should be able to get a good 3-400 Foot-lbs (lol!) by pushing with your foot on the wrench handle. Done this many times without the car falling on my legs. That's the most important consideration --- SAFETY.
