Default Constant Dash noise like chirping, kissing, squeaking

There is a high frequency (2-3 x second – brief pause – 3-4 x second) noise coming from inside (behind?) my dash.

Weird sound, like kissing, chirping, squeaking kind of thing.

I’m thinking it might be a vacuums system issue but I don’t even know if the second generation GS has a vacuum operated vent / air-con doors etc.

It is loud and annoying as all heck.

I stop the car, turn off the engine, but with the key turned to have the accessories powered up (radio, etc) I hear it.

If I turn everything off the noise stop, then when I turn the key to power the accessories it starts up again.

This is after the car has run a bit – not first thing in the morning, so I’m assuming there IS a vacuum system of sorts.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try this, grab the dash behind the steering wheel and push it back and forth, does that re-create the noise?

When I grab the instrument pod part of the dash and move it - the noise is similar - a kind of rubbing, chirping sound the plastic makes when it rubs.

But my noise is inside - and it happens all by itself.

I pull into my garage after driving around - engine running - I can hear it.

I shut down my engine (leave the electrical on) I hear it.

I turn off the ignition completely (remove key) - it stops.

I turn the key one click (electrical stuff on) - I hear it.

When the noise is going on - I try everything I can with the A/C heating / vent controls but nothing makes any difference.

Sigh

That's the thing - no issues with heat / A/C / vents etc.

How many "Servos" are there?

How can I test to see which if any is going out?

I HOPE this is NOT my problems.

Is there a link the describes the heating A/C vent system?

How many friggin servos are there?

How do you diagnose which is noisy?

This is not looking good.......

My money is on the servos. How many miles you got? Mine started makings noises all the way back at about 90K, I'm at 180k now, and 2 of my 3 are dead. I'm about to swap all mine out very soon. Winter is coming and I have no heat on the passenger side, and no vent control.....

Default Well

I have about 94,xxx miles on my 2001 GS300.

So there are 3 servos in all?

What do they do and where are they?

I think all your questions will be answered in the linked thread, but the short of it is that there are 3 servos, a temp servo for each side, and mode servo. I believe the consensus is, if you're going to replace one, do them all together, to save time and labor. Also, don't replace with used servos.

Sorry about the multiple responses - but I just read the links above (many thanks!)

There was a mention of possible electrical issues - grounding etc.

About the same time that I noticed the noise from my dash - I also noticed my radio having some 'issues'.

The sound changes from stereo to mono and back all by itself - maybe not exactly but speakers come and go.

Are these problems related?

ANY ideas?

Thanks again.

I left that one out intentionally because it almost never goes bad.

Hi Everyone,

I have the exact same problem as
XFEA, I have a gs300 mk2 and there is a high frequency (2-3 x second – brief pause – 3-4 x second) noise coming from inside (behind?) my dash .squeaking... Very loud and annoying.
I stop the car, turn off the engine, but with the key turned to have the accessories powered up (radio, etc) I hear it...
If I turn everything off the noise stop, then when I turn the key to power the accessories it starts up again...
This is after the car has run a bit – not first thing in the morning or very late evening but very loud in the middle of the day.

Unfotunelty, this link doesn't work for me, I don't know if it has been taken down, does anyone have any other advice/reading?
