Default Best 2nd Generation GS?

Any particular years that look good for the GS... Currently I am looking at GS430s, and in particular a 2001...

Any thing to know on the 430 vs the 400? Or is the 300 a good bet?

Interested in reliability.. Also, I am not a Lexus owner yet, but my research has pointed me toward a 2nd Generation GS... And I think this generation looks better than the new ones...

Thanks in advance!

I may have owners bias but I still think right behind the 2IS, the 2GS is the best looking lexus...

as for the OP... I love my GS300... but I still think i would have been happier with the performance of a GS430.

Hey guys, thanks for the reading material!... It looks like I am in good hands with either the GS300 or the GS400/430... But I think I am going to shoot for the moon and go with the 430 or the 400 if I can find one I like...

I have to say djspawn that I really like the IS300, if that is what you are refering to the 2IS.. But being 6'2" and 200 pounds, I think I need a little more room.. And I am a current Expedition driver...

I drove actually, after all my research, finally for the first time a GS430 2001 today and I loved the ride!... Felt like I had a lot of power and was never tapped out or near the end...

I tested a TL a couple months back and I felt like I was always racing, and that I was too low.. I am into more of something between luxury and sport and the TL was too raw a ride.. I am not always in the mood for work like that...

I am seriously considering this one GS430 with a black interior and burgundy exterior with around 80k.. It is $14.6K.. But I am learning to look around a bit and this is not a purchase I need to make this week or this month... I kind of wanted the black exterior too, but I love the cockpit feel of a black interior and they are hard to find...

Main problems I have with it are...

1) Used for 50k miles in the midwest in a cold weather climate
2) Was used as a "fleet vehicle".. some say this is ok as in this car it was probably for "executives" and got light use? i dunno
3) Color.. Probably would like black

Things I think are good...
1) Fairly low mileage for its age..
2) Made in Japan.. I hear this is better than the ones made in the USA?
3) Black leather interior.. Hard to find these!

Thanks again everybody!!

From my own personal experience and being friends with other GS owners.. The best year and model is a 1999-2000 GS400.. Without a doubt.. They'll be hard to find clean and low miles but they're out there.. You really have to search for them.. If you want quicker 2nd choice that is easier to find I would go with '01-'05 GS430..The newer the better but GS430's are not as Tunable as a GS400 but a GS430 is still an Awesome 2GS..

I have two of them so i can attest these two cars is best Lexus years and models in the GS category.. Period!

i was going to buy an is300 (loved the overall look, and the instrument cluster of the car)... until i sat in it... and noticed, meh, its a tad cramp for me!

that sold me on loving the gs even more. had a 99 gs300, got tboned, now sitting in an 01gs430. overall, pretty happy, just a few electrical issues (climate servos) but other than that, the car is pretty sound.

but after doing a bit of research, i like all the updated little things the g2430 01-05 have, but also like the gs400 engine and drive train (seems to be stronger)
