Default Two questions.. One thread.. Help?

First off I drive a '98 GS3 w/ 142k miles..

Well here goes the first question.. Another RPM problem.

I have searched and seems that nobody has really found a 'fix' for this problem.. Or so i've seen from my searches.. When I go 60 i'm doing about 3400 RPM.. If I try pushing 70-75 i'm looking at around 3700-3900 RPM.. I KNOW this isn't right and it really bothers me. :/ I've read that it could be caused from the car not going into 5th gear? Well.. How do I fix this.. I mean I mainly drive 95% city, but still.. It's a huge bother to me because I KNOW it's there.. And it just bothers me, so any input on this?

Second question.. I just recently replaced my lower ball joints/tie rods and got FIGS Toe Links also.. Everything was fine before I got my alignment.. Got the alignment and all specs are a-ok looking awesome, so I get on the surface road and start to push 60 or so and my steering wheel shakes .. And now it's shaking all the time I push around 60-65.. Be aware that my steering wheel NEVER shook before I got these new parts installed and got the alignment, so my question is, what could this be? Should I take back my car to Firestone and ask them what the problem is and if they tampered with something? I know usually when your steering wheel shakes that means that you need to replace the rotors? I really don't know.. Maybe I need to do a balance on my tires?

I also got 2 new tires that same day I did the installation of parts and alignment.. (Just a little extra info)

Any help is much appreciated.

the front may shake due to unbalanced wheels, maybe they didnt balance it right. did you get new tires for the front or the rear. and for your 6th gear problem. i have no idea .

GS does not have a 6th gear......
alignment doesnt cause wheel shaking. its wheel balance or a worn suspension component.

Just got them for the front. Maybe i'll go back and see if they'll balance them again.. Ah the RPM problem is what's really making me ehh..

Thanks for info though mate.

I guess i'll try balancing first then. If that doesn't do it new struts are next on my to do list, so we'll see after that.

It might not be engaging into 5th gear. Try switching it into "4" then back into "D" while you're on the highway and see if it will engage.

Will try tomorrow when i'm out. Thanks for the info bro.

Quick pre-question though.. If this does work, and it engages into 5th.. Does this mean i'll have to do this every time that I go onto the highway? Or is there an absolute fix for this so I won't have to?

I believe it may be a shift solenoid(?) that might need to be replaced.

Oh and where in DFW are you?

Ouch.. Flower mound is a bit out there. All good though maybe we will see eachother one day at a meet in the DFW area or something.

Would love to meet some CL members no doubt. And of course their cars.

3900 rpm at 70 mph I think it's not even stuck in 4th, but rather in 3rd gear...

Maybe you're the one that is a bit out there.

I don't recall ever seeing any pics of your GS. Post some!

Maybe so.

I'll try and take some in the next few days or so. I had a couple posted on here whenever I joined at first, but will try and take some this week and post.

By the way my RPM problem was my own fault.. Apparently I was accidentally putting the shifter on the '4' instead of the 'D' when I drove. Which was causing the RPM to sky rocket.

Thanks for the help though mate.
