Lightbulb Car Gurus: In market for new Wheels for the Lexus....

How do I know what OFFSET to choose when shopping? Also does picking the correct offset elminate wheels and tires from rubbing wheel fenders?

Thanks in advance for helping answering this...

Question is too vague. What offsets will rub greatly depends on the width of the rim and how aggressive a look you want, and how much you've lowered the car. Even if you do rub, you can roll or shave the fenders.

this is a complicated question and I would suggest reading old threads to get a feel for the aggressive and conservative offsets for a range.

The conservative offset that wouldn't require any fender modifications if using 17" 18" & 19" wheel 8.5" front 9.5" rear with 40mm/35mm, once you go beyond that you have to start modifying stuff. Thats what Im running right now and my fronts slightly rub with big dips. I WISH the rear was more like a 15-20mm and the front around 25mm but unless you have deep pockets to make that happen you end up like me

The wider the rim is and the lower the offset number goes, the deeper the lips gets and the opposite of that will give you a flat faced wheel.

I have a 2001 GS430 and want to run 20x8 in front and 20x9 in rear...I have not lowered my car and do not plan on it. Also what size tires are recommended too?

Any recommendations with this info?

Thanks

He DID WORK. son. haha.

He's on that supper dapper flush mean city lean.

In terms of your original post; the wheels you have listed -- 20x8F and 20x9R; regardless of your offset won't pose any problems.

You'll have to be a bit more specific though; i.e. 20x8F wheel with +10 offset and a 20x9R with +10 offset will be grounds for fender mods versus 20x8F with +37 and 20x9R with +45 offset which will fit under your fenders. Exact specs I listed aren't probably true to size/wheels but you get the idea.

Tires are a different story as you have lower offsets the less 'wider' your tire the more 'rim' you'll be able to fit.

Those more knowledgeable can chime in and what not.

Sounds to me like your more interested in just having different wheels as opposed to fitment. My best advice is to look around in this forum for a month or so and look at the thousands of different set ups and then decide what direction you want to go in. Rushing =regret

+1 - he beat me to the punch. If you're going with 20 inch wheels you have GOT to look at lowering or you'll look like a 4X4. He's an example from istundra (hope he doesn't mind me using his pic) using Venza 20 inch wheels, lowered, keeping the OEM look (hint, hint).

Also, welcome to the site. You might want to visit the search function, lots of resources at your finger tips without the need for a new post. Here's a great example of the same question you have asked back in November 10, 2010:
