I'd check the Yoko DB line.

I don't plan to get the S03s next time.
I had the Yoko AVS Db's. They were good for the first 5000 miles. Quiet too. but after that they got very loud and made humming noises at lower speeds. Called tire rack and they said yokohama was giving money back on the tires. They said that on some cars, the dont work very well. Especially heavier cars. So i sent them back. Also, they said that yoko was working on a redesign on the tire as we speak.

For my $, I would go with Toyo, but look into the Proxes FZ4...Going on 27K miles on mine, should get 40K by the time it is all said and done.

Wally, the cheap bastard.

Wonder if you have a defective set - my S03s are pretty quiet. I've had no problems with wet performance either that I've had with other performance tires.

Wally / ATLGS4 - hope you guys can make it to our big SE meet in early September with several of the other folks coming from ATL!
See the sticky (or click here) in the lobby for details.

I have tried about 12 sets of tires on my GS now. For performance go with the Yokohama AVS Sports, for performance, ride and wear, Go with Bridgstone Potenza RE-730, I am currently using Yokohama AVS DB's, I only have 1 month on them so far ok performance, Good ride and amazing sound for a low pro tire. For my next set I'm going back to the AVS Sports. BTW my tire size is 235-45-17 all around.

Default Check Tire Rack's survey

Sick – you’ve probably already checked out the Tire Survey Results on the Tire rack website – I know that you read the reviews. That’s one reason that I went for the S-03’s.

For anyone else looking for tires, the user survey results have the S-03 rated at the top of the list. The list does include Dunlop, Michelin, Pirelli, B.F. Goodrich, and Goodyear – it doesn’t include tires that the Rack doesn’t carry (Kumho, Toyo, etc.).

In the high performance tire survey, users are asked to rate their tires in 9 categories. Everything from wet traction through tread wear. The Bridgestone S-03 was rated #1, above the Michelin Pilot Sports, Pirelli Pzero, Yoko AVS Sport, Pirelli P7000 and all others.

12,222 miles for each set,

dam,

i have a question. how long is a set of tires suppose to last an average-little aggressive person running regular 16 inch rims??

my research has proved very beneficial...namely, with my new set of very quiet riding Yokohama avs db's. sporty looking and agressive in the turns, but add to the luxury of the gs4. for me, the quietness is of critical importance...afterall, i'd be driving a supra if roadnoise weren't an issue.

i myself looked at the reviews of the yoko dbs before i purchased. at that time, all the reviews were good. however, if you read the reviews for the dbs now they arent so good. their ranking in the tire rack survey is also falling. like i said before, they were very quiet and stable tires for the first 5000 miles. but after that, they were worse thand the OEM potenzas in the 235/45/17 size.

ya, that's kinda scary.....i hope that was a fluke with your set...only time will tell. what did you get to replace them and how do they compare noise wise?

I just replaced my Kuhmos (245/40/18) with S03's. They came down so much in price it was worth a shot. They just got scrubbed in this week at about 700 miles. No comparison. They are so much stickier and ride much better as well. I am running way more pressure with equal ride quality. They do like high pressures and are pretty squirmy if below 35lbs.

I have had the old Pilots, Yoko AVS Sports (twice), the Kuhmos and now these. The AVS were a great tire but so LOUD after 10k miles it was painful. I know two other M5 owners who have put nothing but S02's or S03's on their cars for the last three years. They usually get about 20k out of a set which is all I expect. If you have camber (I have 1.8 neg in front and 2.5 in back) or inside tire wear problems just flip them on the rim at about 10k miles. I am happy with my purchase and a local Goodyear guy gave them to me out the door for $855 (not bad considering they are $196 at Tire Rack).

I recommend them. Those cloverleafs are so much more fun now. The Kuhmos squealed like a stuck pig and under hard braking were dangerous (I had to run them on the track once, yikes).

i dont think it was a fluke, because the tire rack told me that yoko was redesigning the dbs because of tire noise after they wore down a little. it may have been BS, who knows.
just read the reviews on tire rack, i think others have had problems.
