Tires on GS 400, do they really make that much of a difference.
Well as ya'll should know by now, I go through tires every 6 months. The fronts are going and need replacing soon. The Kumho's are cheap and decent, but I was always a supporter of Bridgestone Potenzas.
I have read the personal reviews on Tire Rack and done some research. Seems tires can make a HUGE improvment in how the car drives and handles.
So I am leaning toward SO-3s unless ya'll can recommend better.

I haven't replaced my stock tires yet (of course), but I have become a Pirelli believer with my last few cars. The P7000 should be suitable, but if you want ultra high performance then go for the PZero. Smooth riding, quiet, and sticky as hell!

1SICK – I just recently bought tires for my new 19’s and also did some research. I came to the conclusion that the best bang for the buck (at least in 19” and my sizes) were the S-03. My other choice was the Toyo T1-S but they were quite a bit more. I’m pretty pleased with the handling since rolling on the Bridgestones but part of the handling improvement would be due to the lower profile.

Too early to tell how they're going to wear, but I'm very impressed with the Toyo T1-S so far. Great traction on dry and wet pavement. Not to mention how good the squared off sidewalls and recessed bead look on my rims. I was leaning heavily towards the S03s until I read all the great reviews on the Toyos and found out they have a higher wear rating. My GS is my daily driver, and I would have been lucky to get a year out of the S03s. I'm hoping for two with the Toyos. If you shop around you can come close to matching Tire Rack's prices on the S03s.
I'm sure you'd be very happy with the S03s, but it sounds like you're trying to find a better compromise between a tire that handles great and a tire that will last you more than 6 months.

was actually thinking of this myself today. at the limits im sure that the s-03's or whatever would be better performance. but i have the yoko avid H4's and they do the job. additionally, i have put 15k miles on them in 9 months and they still have excellent tread. this includes burnouts at the strip and assorted infractions that i dont care to mention. if i were driving a 9 or 10/10ths all the time (like you do mike) then maybe i would get a "high performance" tire. but for now, im good...........

My Toyo T1-S's have terrific grip but they're not quiet any more. They haven't worn much but then I don't put a whole lot of miles on my car.

I have 19" S03s and I'm not that happy.
One of them is causing pull that I am trying to figure out and they are LOUD as hell.
I'd check the Yoko DB line.

mich pilots are great...but too pricey...to me, it is all about name and marketing...just look at the national ads/commercials..you see more michelins than perhaps many others combined...it is like designer clothing...someone has to pay for the price tag...jmho

I find that tire rating is very subject at best. Driving style, alignment/balance, air pressure, etc., etc. really influence rating parameters.
That's my story (today) and I'm sticking with it.

RE730's are a quality tire, but now that im autocrossing i wish i went with teh SO-3. More grip is to be had from my car. The ultimate woudl be those drag radial / race tires you see in japan. You know the slicks with bascially slits cut in them? i dont think its very easy to get them here.. but very sweet none the less.
