Absolutely beautiful car shaneb!!! I love that model of the E55 AMG so much.

When I bought my 99 GS400 5 months ago, I kept on drooling over the the few E55 AMG's on sale in the local auto trader paper, but could not afford one.

Please keep us updated and post some more pics. One change that would improve the appearance would be to put on some iForged or HRE rims and get rid of that heavy and boring look of the AMG monoblock wheels. Other than that, the car looks absolutely awesome. It has a presence you cannot ignore. My favourite color too! My GS is the same color as well. Maybe one day, I will have an E55 AMG as a second car. [dreaming now]

Here is a thread that shows some iForged rims - https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=80920

HRE's are overpriced but are also high quality wheels like the iForged ones.

More power to you man!!!

I personally would take an E55, however be wary of various electrical problems, and mechanical problems with the german engineering.

das rite... household's s class is experiencing that problem a year and half after the purchase. shaddy.

my 60 foot was 2.2

I will go back in a few weeks ...

I added k&n air filters and heat insulated my air box ...

i.e. 13.5 probably isn't gonna happen with the current selection of aftermarket bolt-ons.

I guess I missed that 106mph run at the same ET. Thanks for getting me straight.

Mean Gene's 13.79@106.1 on 18's

Mean Gene's 13.79@103.17 on 17's

Given the optimal weather, lighter wheels, same mods, and superb 60' ET on the 103mph run, I don't quite understand how Gene trapped 106mph with the same 13.79 ET.

If the 106.1 mph wasn't some kind of abberation, my years of drag racing experience tell me a 1.76 60' (see 103.17 mph run) combined with his best mph (106.1 run) should equal 13.50's.

Hopefully Gene can explain some of this for us.

13.79@106 is an excellent time. I believe that the biggest difference between Gene's 1/4 mile time and others' was the fact that he also had the LSD installed. Definitely helps to put the power down to both wheels rather than one. The rule of thumb is..for every .1 sec you cut in the beginning, you will gain .2 in the end. So, if the LSD could knock off .2-.3sec at the start (very likely....maybe even more), it would knock off close to half a sec off Gene's 1/4 mile time. Although 13.5 would theoretically be somewhat possible, in real life, it is not likely to happen. I would never try to fool myself that a stock GS with non forced induction mods can run 13.5. Also, I am a die-hard Lexus fan, but given a stock E55 and a stock GS, I would choose the E55. Good luck with your 55.

Unhappy Dunno!!

Tom & others - George ( SSmokem ) who visits our site on a semi-frequent basis asked me the same question as he calculated that a 1.76 60' time should yield a better ET ( like perhaps a 13.4 ). I truthfully don't have a clue as to the difference in mph. I used to feel that the lazy shifting of the GS tranny had something to do with it & possibly it might. I'll go try to find the time slips & post them or at least do some head scratching of my own - it's been a LONG time ago!!

Well it was 80 degrees outside Sunday, I have the SRT intake and ECU, no LSD nor a TC, my best was a 14.7 at 96mph with a reaction time of .980 (damn I'm slow). My previous best was a 14.9. I'm a track noob, so I am hoping to get to the low 14s very soon. I wonder how much the sway bars weigh?

A 13.5 sec GS, you'll need a prayer. NOS anyone?

E55s are ****, I LOVE AMG monoblock wheels. Great car dude!

ummm
i love the amg e55 almost as much as the clk 55
( don't have kids to need 2 more doors yet,but thats what the wife has a car for :P )
but no one mentioned the M5
was that never a consideration for buying ( shane b)?
as it is a very comparable car and an over acheiver at that
if only lexus would make a real competitior to ///M power or AMG
