Yes you can use 01-05 gs430 and 01-0? sc430 on 98-00 gs400. I installed a 2004 sc430 unit in mine (98 gs4)like a month ago. Wasn't hard to do. I had to replace my alternator at the same time because the p.s. pump leaked all over it. Just don't bust the little plastic vacuum lines.
i may live in TN BUT im from Erie Pa and as long as i have lived here i still get grief bout using you'lls

Rgr Thanks!. Question.. those 2 bolts on the bottom right.. they hold the PS pump and are bolted down from the bottom huh?? meaning i may need to get under the car to view the bolts? Also did you replace the gasket thats held by the union bolt? (feed line)
Sorry about my last post it was from my iphone glad u were able to read it..lol
As far as the gasket, it is copper and doesn't need to be replaced. Second the two bolts on the bottom , if I remember correctly, could only be accessed if the alternator was removed. You will have to remove part of the lower plastic shield as well ( the lower shield that ties into the front bumper) and the small part that wraps around the sway bar and ties into the rest of the splash shield. The 2 bolts that need to be removed from from the bottom of the p.s. pump, have to be removed from the bottom of the car. The pulley off of the p.s. pump doesn't require a special tool either. If you have trouble, then use a type of removal tool that will have a stud in the middle with two hook clamps on either side. (If you can vision it the way I meant it to be...lol) Hope this helps.

Before you go ahead and replace the pump, make sure that it is actually the pump that is leaking. Theres an air valve on the bottom of the pump (where the two thin vacuum hoses connect to) and often its actually that valve that leaks, not the pump. A new pump does not come with a new valve - you have to reuse the old one.
On the LS400 I used to have, I pulled the service history, and it had the PS pump replaced three times in a one year time span. When I got the car, it was still leaking, and sure enough it turned out to be that valve. Its only $100, and easy to replace, but not many people are aware of that.

These cars accesories are built well, 13 years old and 115k miles and still on the original alt., p/s pump, and starter, however a/c compressor needed replacement at 60k.
