Hey guys,
I've been reading this site off and on for over 1 yr now. Finaly thought since I probally will be considering getting my 1st lexus I should introduce myself.
I will be graduating from scool next yr, and am debating which lexus to get. My budget is mid $15k range. Give or take a couple thousand $ too. I know I realy can't get too much for that, but it's a start.
I've been doing a lot of searching for cars on the net and have found pretty much 1 in each model that I like. But which to choose? I've found some 60k miled range early LS400's, some early GS300's with 70K mile range and some early to mid SC models with low miles too. All are pretty much in the same price range, and the ones with the least amount of miles are the SC's and LS's.
I'm not going simply for power or speed. And will doubtfully do any upgrades to increase HP. I also own a Stillen GTZ and Nissan 300zx. Those suit my speed issues fine. But if the car has some ponies from the start, that's fine. I'm not simply going for a bigger engine, but if it's got one that's just a plus.
More then anything I want comfort and reliability. And something that will run for EVER!!! One that when it gets over 150k miles I dont have to worry about.
If you guys can help me out that'd be much highly appreciated.
Thank you
-Michael

I don't really know what to advise--you're a student looking at getting your THIRD car?
Personally I think the LS is a little too old-personish, so I would go for a GS or SC. Normally I would recommend a coupe for someone just coming out of school, but you've already got your sports car so maybe a first gen GS is more practical. Sporty, luxurious, rock-solid reliability, and practical to boot.

Hey man,
I recognize you from twinturbo.net. You had a black NA for a long time didn't you? There is a few guys from there that moved up in the world. Brent, and a few others. I
I would suggest to get an early Ls or sc. I really haven't heard too many good things to say about the 1st gen gs300 but I know the Ls is a choice you won't ever regret. Not that the Gs300 is bad or even average reliability for that matter. Just get a 91 or a 90 with new upper control arms. I replaced mine this week which is the first time I had to repair any thing in the 40k miles I have owned it.
Good to see ya here......

Mike- since you already have sport cars, I would choose between the LS or GS. The LS is a big luxurious car and the GS is more on the sporty side. The LS has more hp's than the GS. Any Lexus will be very reliable, so you can't go wrong there. Difficult choice, if it were me, I would choose a 1st gen GS over the 1st gen LS. If you can find a 2nd gen LS (95+) in your price range I would definitely pick that over the 1st gen GS. Good Luck!

look into an earlier LS400 maybe a 95 or 96. All you gotta do is throw the deuces on there and you don't have to worry about driving an "old tymers" car, cuz you'll be considered a "big tymer."
Maybe you could check out earlier GS300's those are pretty nice.

I used to be on tt.net also, I used to have a 300ZX before too! lol! I also used to have a LS400. IMHO I would go with the LS400 first generation, 1991 and up without air suspension (less headaches) The LS400 ride is smooth and the engine is really reliable! My LS had about 85K mile and had no problems... should run for a long time! Save some money and pick up the first Gen LS and throw on some DUBS and a Kit and you'll be ballin! then if you feel the need for speed just jump in one of your Zs and go rippin! Well good luck in your decision!

I have a 92 NA black 300z and just purchased a 99 black GS300. Love em both for different reasons. Love to cruise around town in the Z. It still gets a lot of looks. Plus I love driving the 5 speed.
I do about 1000 miles a week back and forth to work so the GS really fits the bill there. Smooth, quiet and fast! And GOD does it look good when it is clean!
So, good luck making a choice, IMHO I love the GS!

Which Lexus to get? As a person who has owned 6 Lexus, I'm in a better position than most to say. Definitely the GS400. It's the fastest Lexus, It's tied for most practical with the LS400, It's tied in looks with the SC400. Any Lexus, well cared for will last you 250k ++ miles.
Now for the budget. At 15k, a GS400 is out of the question right now, unless you don't mind putting a few grand into a fixer-upper. However, I am a wholesale broker and a year from now, I will be able to get you a 98 GS400 for $15-18k.
If you want a LS, I see them go for $5-7k all the time (early 90's models). Also, early to mid 90's SC300 & SC400 are available for $5-12k easily at wholesale.
I'll get a Lexus for anyone on this list at wholesale.

Given the rides you already have, I would go with the LS. You'll get luxury and power. My friend had gotten a used one a few years (which unfortunately was totaled), and he loved the ride, reliability, and the way he was able to smoke so-called sports cars.
With the proper mods on an LS, it can look pretty hot. Nice rims, tints, and a kit, as have been suggested will turn that old-mans car in to some hot ******.
The SC and GS are good as well, but I think you got the bases covered with your other cars.
And, the first generation LS is what made Lexus to what it is, the king of reliability.
