Default for those who mod there cars with a Salvage title ???

Okay I have been away for a little over a year. My car had been T boned from the passenger side over a year ago, the insurance company total it out and put a salvage title on my car.Well it has just sitting in my garage collecting dust my question is it worth putting money and modifying a car that have a salvage title The car is a 2000 Gs 400 I had major plans for my car, but I dont want to but money in it and later down the road try to sell it and get Pennies for it. Anyone members on here that have a salvage title can you leave some feedback and pics of your car so I can make a decision.

its whatever its worth to you. you can mod a salvaged car if you like but it will be much harder to sell it because:

A) its modded
B) its salvaged

keep in mind even with a modded clean car, you'll never get back what you put into it.

IXI187IXI Took the words right out of my mouth.. it's hard to sell a modded car, it's even harder to sell a modded-salvaged car

If the insurance already claimed it salvaged just fix it if you have the money and drive it as a daily/beater till it falls apart.

I understand that and that is what I was kinder worried about.

Edmunds has a retail price of just over $7300 and trade in price of just over $5000. Since your car was totaled I'm assuming it has around $5,000 or more worth of damage. Looking at just the dollars, it does not make sense.

How much damage do you have?

yah i agree with everyone else You never get what you paid for mods plus car so if you put 20k into a 10k car your never getting 30k
id fix it get all the body mods you want paint it and make it look good just for yourself. You are not going to make a profit trying to sell it right after. My cousin bought a gs400 a very long time ago id say in 2002 and it was a salvaged title he got a good price on it, you could tell it was salvage or lemme re state that, I could tell. but it drives fine he still drives it probably put 100k on it but I doubt he will sell it because he knows its not going to be worth what its worth to him

Well if you plan on selling down the road, it will not be worth it.

Modified cars are hardly an investment. We just do it as a hobby and like to stand out from the rest.

You never get what you put into your car not matter what it is, unless you find someone who what exactly what you have done to it.

This is not true depending on how you look at it, I've broke even, or even came out on top with a few cars i've modded, you just have to calculate what you have into it vs what it's worth..

the thing is, if you plan on breaking even modding a car, you have to draw a limit, you just can't go too far with it, wheels, coilovers, things you can take on and off, if you buy these parts used, they will be worth the same price you paid for them, you really take a loss if you buy new stuff, which i do sometimes, i'm just saying it's not impossible to break even or come out slightly ahead modding a car, but to those going all the way with it, kit, air ride, supercharger/turbo setups, yeah most of time you can just kiss that cash goodbye for the most part.

I will say i would never modify a salvage titled car unless i planned on keeping it for life, because that will be even a harder sell... Most people wouldn't buy a salvage title car, and most people that will buy one will expect it to be dirt cheap..
