Pull.
What's up, everyone?
I haven't been here for a while, but it looks like everything is still the same: a lot of info, a lot of expertise, and mad love for Lexus. I got a question for all you fellow Lexus owners out there.
Today I'm driving on I-95 doing about 65 mph. It's 92 degrees outside. My A/C is on and I'm just chillin'. Now this F150 cuts me off and keeps on pulling away. And then another one. So now I'm mad. I step on the gas. The tranny downshifts, rpms go from 2,200 up to like 3,000 BUT the car does not seem to pull any stronger or going any faster. I give it more gas, it downshifts again, rpms are now at around 4,000. And now it's hauling a$$.
But at this point I'm more concerned with my car then with the Fords. So I slow down to 70 mph. And then step on the gas again. Same thing. It downshifts but it does not seem to be pulling the car the same way it's used to.
When I get in the city, the car drives just fine. It speeds up the same way it always does. But WHY didn't it have the pull on the highway? Does it have anything to do with the weather being so hot and me having the A/C on? OR Am I just being paranoid? I don't know.
Guys, bless me with some of your Lexus wisdom. I love my car to death, and if it's something you think I need to check out, I'll do it right away, but I just don't even know what to look for as of now.
By the way I've got a 1994 GS3.
Thanks a lot for your help.

In 5th on the highway in a GS300 you're going to have very little torque. Dropping to 4th helps some, but with AC blowing on a hot day, you're right, you're still not going to have a lot of acceleration from highway speeds up. Nothing wrong with your car as far as I can tell.

push in the ECT button and it will kick down to a lower gear and hold it longer. also if you want even higher acceleration take off overdrive and just press the AC button so it turns off and let the fan coninue to spin. the first gen have a great transimision frommy own personale xperience, mine is great. i love my accleration.

Heavy car, only 220 hp, hot day, A/C on, 65 mph to start..........not a recipe for a lot of acceleration against V8s with more torque and hp, even if they are pushing big 'ol Ford barndoors.
Your car's almost certainly OK, just not a lot of high speed grunt. Sure, it'll do 140+, but it'll take a while to get there. On a clear road, you would have eventually pulled those guys. But it wasn't and you wisely backed out of it. Two thumbs up from this doctor.

"The man up above was trying to tell you something" It was for a reason! They could have been some bad guys and your car not running like it should saved your life! Just think of it like that and you will feel better
