Will condensation in the headlamp cause the HID to burn out?
I washed my car the other day and didn't think I applied direct water pressure to the headlights. However I found condensation in the drivers side and then about a day later the HID went out. Can the condensation cause the HID to go out?
If I air it out is it a possiblity it will fire up again?

in answer to your question, no. HID's are suppose be be able to be submerged in water and still work. So a little condensation shouldn't do a thing

Theres a good chance that its NOT the ballast, in fact I'm pretty certain it isnt. The buzzing sound is the ballast sparking. Before purchasing another ballast, check the connection of the bulb to the harness. This statement is only true if you have factory set up because of the 'twist on' type connection the d2r bulb has. My harness is broken so it doesnt make a good connection sometimes and I get the same sound. Once I re attach it, it works again.

i understand that but he also mentioned he was washing his car. he could have sprayed the back of the light and not realized. i did the same thing on my 3GS last summer and i had the same problem. i started to get a lot of condensation in the headlight and eventually the ballast went bad. after i pulled it, you could see were all the water molded around the ballast.
im just saying i wouldnt rule it out.

So condensation is humidity and I thought I read in another thread that humidity is bad for the bulb. But then it flicker. I checked the connection last night and I reset the bulb in the plug. Same thing. I did notice the metal thread on the wires was frayed at the plug. But that's it.

on the bottom of the housing locked tight and sealed. You have to remove the housing and flip it over, you'll find a 2x3x5" box with 4 screws. Remove them and box comes off.
as for the moisture, yes thats correct, however i believe that only applies to halogen bulbs

swap bulbs from one side to the other and see if problem follows the bulb or persists on the same side. If its the ballast, you can find them on ebay all day long, or you can find them in the classifieds. Screen Name "Emoshun" should have a few sitting around.
