Default H.I.D Fogs Popping fuses

Just got some Plug N Play 8k Hid's... It was fine for the 1st 2 weeks... earlier today i get home my fogs are off and i find the fuse busted.. Swapped in another 15amp fuse and it popped after the 2nd try.. I put a 20amp in and its been ok since, only been one day tho... Any Ideas of the issue ?

i suggest you replace the fuse with OEM 15AMP and install a aftermarket wiring harness and having the HID's fused individually. This will help prevent your wiring from melting if there is a short.

But is this a common problem or is there something else I should be aware of ?

Not common. You have short.

if your using 8K i would think output is not an issue for ya so maybe switch to Blue LEDs

LMAO! blue LED's!!! maybe retro something from the LS460h.

Most likely your ballast consumes more then 15AMPS at startup; so that's why it blows out your fuse.

Some of the better digital ballast could work without a relay harness.

What kind of ballast do you have?

yup. your ballast probably consumes too much wattage.
35 watt ballasts are good. 55 are pushing it. anything higher than that is too much for the factory wiriing.

theres this guy here in town. he sells hids out of his garage and charges to install them. the other day i went with a friend to check some out. he mentioned he had an 80 watt ballast. i was tripping out. cus idk who the hell would use that. thats waaay too much watts for the thin factory wiring that comes with the lighting cables in cars.

.. its probably your ballast. what kind of hid kit do you have?
i have an hidextra kit in my fogs and ive had it since the summer and i use them quite a lot. i often turn them on and off rapidly even, and no short, no blown fuses they always work great with no flickering or anything. im pretty sure mine are 35 watts. so not the brightest but still very bright and i rather have no problems than try and go super bright and keep having a lot of problems.

He has 8k. thats only good if you wish to look pretty and cool, and does nothing for lighting. if he keeps blowing fuses due to a short/ballast etc..he should maybe consider going to LEDs. he can get any pretty color he wants since lighting/visibility is not his concern. thats that help you understand?

I have A kit from a local shop Called "CatEyes" .. everything is warrantied everything, should i be seeing them again ? The 20amp still hasn't popped and i havent had any burning smell or smoke issue.

You say the ballast draws the most power at start up... Does this mean at start up is when i should worry about Smoke or burning issues mostly ?

Oh yeh! I totally understand how HID is utilized and i've been in the hid retrofit game back since 2003. It all started with rebased 9006 Philips 85122 w/ Hella ballast.

Despite the fact that he uses 8000K.. i honestly think our lights should be 4200K to 6000K max!!! I have 6000K D2R on my 2GS and 4200K D2S in LS430 retro for my truck. both do not have HID fogs. i don't think i really need them.

Yes supra, you should do a relay harness when your ballast blows out your fuse. Do it correctly; else you may melt your wiring and create a serious problem.

take the 20amp fuse back owner. the solution to your problem ISNT putting a bigger fuse into a place its not called for and this is just asking for a issue

Took it out last night and replaced it with a 15 amp... Its been alright since no issues so far... Knowing that current travels slower in a hotter temperature maybe thats what put stress on the ballast drawing Power which made it blow the fuse... Now its a bit cooler and its been alright.. Theres no break in the wires or anything all is well from what ive seen today.. I went over everything.
