I'm a bit confused after reading this thread. I too have rear door problems. What's the proper solution?
Rear Passenger door: does not unlock or lock by power. Has to be manually manipulated. Not sure on the status of the lights. When the door is open, I'm pretty sure the door ajar light is NOT on.
Rear Driver door: Works when power is applied. Door light, and courtesy light both come on. Dome light is intermittant at best. While I had door open, the alarm armed this morning getting stuff out of my back seat. Pretty sure it also does not trigger the door ajar light in dash.
Do I need a whole new assembly for the passenger side door? What about the driver side. I just want everything to work like it's supposed to. Would the door ECUs have anything to do with this?

What are dealers charging to fix this? I have two doors on my 2003 GS430 with this problem. I don't have the time or patience to fix it myself, and am wondering how much I should plan to spend to have the dealer fix it?

I have 01 GS430. When I bought it 6 months ago everything was fine. Recently the Front driver door lock stopped working. It only works manually. Not with remote nor using unlock inside the car. That means the actuator is bad, doesn't it? I called Lexus dealer to check on the price and they'd charge me ~$500 for 1 door (both labor and part). They can't just replace the actuator. They have to replace both the actuator and motor...:~(....
Hope this helps and can someone please confirm this is the actuator problem that I have before I order the part...
Many thanks....

man, saw this thread too late I guess I could've tried getting the Avalon actuator to see if it fits. Ordered an actuator last week came in on Friday and replaced it. Door closes with a fresh thud now . Where in NC are you man, if you are around the triangle I could possibly help you out. PM if you need anything..
