Default tinting

I've scheduled a tint job at a local place (Solar Works) next Saturday. Someone at the last meet said this place was decent. They use Formula One brand and say that even the full metalized film won't interfere with my nav system and if it does, they'll take the tint off and (I assume) give a refund.

I'm still nervous about doing it but really want tint. My car sits out in the sun all day at work and bakes.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks.

Bit,

I have the Formula One Millenium metallized tint and have not had a problem with FM radio reception. Not sure about NAV. If you are hesistant, Formula One also makes a non-metallized tint (Comfort Series) that is just dyed and also has a lifetime guarantee against fading, peeling, bubbles etc. Check out their website at www.formulaone.com

Thanks GSMan. The place I called said they don't guarantee the non-metal films against fading beyond 1 year.

I went the non-metallic route. I had a tint put on my car that had very little metal in the tint and it still screwed up my NAV, was taking a long time to connect to the GPS sats. I had it removed and went with non-metallic tint and all has been well. Good luck Bit with the tint, personally I would go the non-metal route, screw the guarantee, at least your NAV will be working and your car cooler. Just my 2 cents. Good luck though

sup bit any tint wILL interfere with ur nav, I've seen in on my previous quantum tint, or my friends limo tint.

I never seen/heard formlua 1 film, but I garentee you will be satisfied with quantum tint. it's a bit greenish with mirror look outside, yet from inside it is almost like u have no tint at all but just the light reduction.

keep me updated ^^

btw, given GS's sporty outlook, no matter how light ur tint is U will have a bit more unwatned hassle :O one of the reason I like quantum tint the most because it looks very stockish, most people thought the car comes in that.

OK guys, thanks for the great feedback - here's my plan...

I'm going to see about getting non-metallic formula one on the back and metallic on the sides. Sound reasonable?

IT'S ABOUT TIME j/k. Hey remember a while back when someone suggested getting a custom trim job around the nav antennae in the lower right? What ever happened with that experiment? BTW tint is a must in our region, good luck!

p.s. you need to work half a day on the 6th! we'll take the long road

Yeah, this was the trim job, but I'm not sure how good it looks.

Well, no go on the tint. The place wasn't sure the tint manufacturer could warranty it if they did the cut out and he definitely didn't recommend doing the non-metal only on the back (different color to the metal tint). He's going to check on the cut and warranty though so we might get to do that.

I went to the Lexus dealer nearby who uses this same tint shop and the sales droid had sent over ES300's and LS430's with nav and had no problems, but on the LS430 at least it has an external nav antenna so no prob. I'm contemplating installing a roof mount nav antenna at this point!
