Default Where can I get a good quality, NEW alternator (replacement)?

So, driving this morning my battery light started to come on when braking and stopping at stop signs and traffic lights (when RPM's are lowest). The light kept going away when the RPM's would start to climb again. It must be the alternator. I JUST made it to my mechanic. He gave it a quick test and found that the alternator is in fact shot!

So, now he can ONLY get a remanufactured alternator (to the tune of $360) and can't warranty the part because it's a reman...he said unfortunately it can last 30 days or 3 years; there is no way in telling. He feels aftermarket replacement as NEW could provide me with better assurance.

I am now looking into new replacement alternators. Where can I find one? I know many of you had to replace alternators sometime or another...please help a brother out; I'd like to get a good quality one; just started to look on Ebay.

Please LMK your thoughts...

Also, is it OK to use a high output alternator? such as a 200A or 220A...will this be helpful for me since I am looking into installing a supercharger down the road? Does a high output alternator negatively effect anything in the electrical system? What is it's purpose?

I've had plenty of alternator problems over the years. But the best place I've found is...

Mondial Automotive
11414 14th Rd
College Point, NY 11356
718-461-1103

They rebuild alternators "in house" and can bench test also. I've purchased a few alternators there for various cars and they've all lasted the test of time. I had 1 issue with a regulator failing on 1 of my alternators and they replaced it for free.

Honestly, rebuilt alternators are perfectly fine. As long as it was done properly. The alternators from oreillys or auto zone typically only cost $150-200. I haven't had any trouble with all the ones I bought from them. They also come with lifetime warranty. Most mechanics just tell you that they don't warranty reman alternators because they want to try to make some extra money off of you. Also running a high amp alternator won't hurt anything, but imo is a waste of money unless you have a banging audio system.

If you can run without a high output alternator, ie not putting out more than 100+ amps then you should be good.

Some companies that are good (for HO):

Iraagi
Mechman
Dcpowerinc

180 amp alternator can be bought for about 349.

This is the one I wound up getting...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-L...item1e61bf6974

I called them up...$170/shipped w/insurance

It is a 200A, direct fit with a 1 year warranty

The one from my mechanic was a reman. with a 90 day warranty and was $369; he advised me to look into aftermarket replacements. The only problem is the company I ordered from doesn't have expedited shipping options. So, it will be at my doorstep on Tuesday; so I am down my car until then. My shop will probably install either Tues. or Wed. when it comes in. This is a PITA and it is EXACTLY why by this time next year (or sooner) I will have a different daily and keep the GS as a garage queen.

I'll let you guys know how it all turns out! Thanks again...

The same thing is happening to me when I slow down or let off the gas coming up to a stop. Only difference is that the "Brake" light is the one coming on. Only time I've ever seen this light come on is when I put the ebrake on. Im also having problems starting the car. It starts, but hesitates before turning over. I thought it was the old corroded terminals to the battery, so I replaced it which helped since the car would die after a day of not starting it up. I think this is connected to my alternator or starter somehow.
