Default For those that have Batteries in the Trunk !

Hey;

In about 2 months or less I will be having a dual battery setup. Mainly to power the air compressors for my airride, and maybe the audio/video as well.

My question is what do you guys use in order to secure the battery in the trunk ?

Pics and product info would be great...

Thanks

Summit racing battery box, legit kit, or you could always make your own custom box/mount

Thanks I will check that out...
I'd rather buy something proper than screwing up a build even if it be as simple as a box.

Also look into the "Marine" made battery boxes as they do a good job of keeping battery bad in and moisture out should your trunk encounter any. They also are all almost made to mount in some fashion and can be found at almost any local location.

as cheap as this is it works

^^^ thanks

Looks like a box is the defiante way to go.

This may be a really dumb comment, but how is the box going to stay in place ?

Like when the car is turning at speeds of 50mph wouldnt the box also move...

How is it (box) secured from moving ?

The battery is secure in the box since there is the brackets to hold it in place.

I did a bit more searching and found that people drill down to secure the

battery box. I definately do not want to drill anything into the car.

Is there another way to safely secure a battery in the trunk ?

How else do you secure something in a car? It's not secure if it's not attached.

I think you meant "definitely"

Secure it with an existing hole or secure it using something that will attach to something that already goes in a hole. I used to make a bracket that would go up and attach to the shock tower unless it was all covered in the trunk. How is your air suspension secured? It's not just floating around back there, is it? A couple of holes, properly placed of course, in a trunk shouldn't be a big deal. Just hit them with a coat of undercoating on the underside to prevent any rust issues.

Are you planning on adding a battery and replacing the one under the hood? It is always advisable to do dual batteries at the same time because age deteriorates them (shocker, I know). If your existing is more than a year old, I wouldn't try to add to it without doing bofum.

What kind of Battery will you be using in the rear??

Personally i would Bolt down or weld. I would not use a plastic box personally.

Just think an 80lb battery flying around and shorting out..... Hello Fire Hazard.

Personally i hate Optimas but if your using one i would look into a mount like this.

All i use are Deka Batteries.

LOL, yea I did... Fixed that up

Yea, I am adding a battery in the trunk. The one battery in the front is not enough. The car is stored in the winter and the battery died on me, less than 6 months of use. So I will be returning that under warranty... Mainly because the air compressors take out like 35 amps when they come on. thanks

Never thought of that, might consider it. The toppin plate where the air tank and 2 compressors are placed is held down by velcro. And that has worked well.

I will look into bolting down or high stregth velcro. I was thinking of getting a high quality box, maybe spend about $100 or so for a proper kit. The clear one used in the optima pic. is really nice. Something like that would be good.

I am looking into HC1200 -HC 1800. The HC1200 only weighs 30 lbs but it might not give enough power. Brian mentioned I should go with atleast 1800 so I am considering it.

Say the front is the oem acid battery, and the rear is the Kinetik battery is that a bad combination ? How long would one recommend I have before I switch the one in the front to a Kinetik HC1800 as well.

i wouldnt as it appears you could easily have BOTH the negative and postivie terminals touching that metal bracket which would thus short them

Oh yea, a one bigger for the trunk.

I was able to get a few quotes of prices, might as well add the HC2400 to the quote list. The HC1200 is only $200...
