They claim they used this special balancer called on-road balance machine which is 15 grand and it takes two hours to balance 4 wheels. Does this sound funny
it doesn't sound funny, it sounds stupid and ridiculous. pretty much most shops can do balance in 30 mins at most. balancing tires aren't rocket science, there are just so many ways to do it and seriously i dont' see how it can be made "better"...

I bet it was a Hunter machine and $200 sounds ridiculous.

I paid $40 four balancing and $40 for mounting.

You need a better dealership.

They claim they have the regular wheel/tire balance which only takes 30 minutes (40 bucks)... but the one they used on my car is different, and takes much longer to rebalance I think this is crock also! Damn I'm mad... but at least they fixed it... the tech said it's possible the problem might still be there, and I still had to pay up! Anyways I'm glad the problem is gone because the other Tire place couldn't do any better.

Oh yes, they said it's not a Hunter Machine, because I was insisting on it. They said, they were the only dealer who had this SPECIAL machine, and that they normally do NOT even do aftermarket wheels, but since I was *****ing about my problem, they did. Oh well!

Default Vibration At Highway Cruising Speed

Hello Everyone,
Has anyone in San Diego had this pretensioner adjustment done? If so, WHICH dealership did you use? None of the dealers I have contacted here know anything about this adjustment OR the TSB. I am beginning to think that I will have to drive to El Monte to Longo Lexus to have this done.

My car is a 1999 GS-400 with NEW 17 inch Bridgestone RE-730's with less than 100 miles on them. The vibration is STILL there, just like it was with the original RE-030's.

I will be giving Longo a call, but I WOULD like to educate these San Diego dealers on what looks like a pretty common problem on the GS's. I do not intend on going any larger with the tires and wheels. In fact, I MAY even get a second set of tires and wheels in the original 16 inch configuration. I personally think that the 16's ride better and last a lot longer.

Thanks again,
Respectfully,
GSEREP1

I think they use an on car balancer, which is not easy to set up. But $200.00 is still too much. Here in Atlanta, one tire shop only charge $115.00 for on car balancer.

It was actually $190, but close enough. I'm glad you know what I'm talking about, now I don't feel as bad! Does this really take two hours?

took my car to the dealer and they said it was because I have suspension and rims. I told them I got my car aligned, like 10 mins prior, and the wheels balanced. I also told him just wanted the steering pretensioner tightened. The service guy told me it wasn't the car and insisted that it was because I modded the car. Then he went to talk to the tech and the tech said it was only for 98 GS's and that it should have been fixed on my car. Westminster Lexus doesn't know Cr@p. I came to work, check this thread, called the guy back and insisted they look at my car. So I made an appointment and they was going to check it out on Monday. We'll see.

mc

why even bother your ride with westmini?..call veronne and see what he says....

actually FYI...veronne called me yesterday on this issue after he discussed with ted...they can do the 1/16 adj...BUT there is no guarantee that the vibration will go away...well, my did, ~95% is gone..most importantly is that the steering feel is 110% better and firmer..

TSB was for the 1998 & 1999GS's. I did not see any for the later models.

People at Lexus dealerships hates dealing with cars with any mods... They always blame the mods, assuming their Lexus's are always perfect (even though we their not).
