Default blown sub...what next?

i recently purchased my 2001 GS430 with ML system. never really pushed the music until earlier this week, i usually listen to talk radio. whenever the bass hits or there is a bass line, there is a heavy rattling or buzzing sound coming from the sub. i assume the sub is blown, or torn, or whatever happens to these things. how long does a typical sub last? maybe the previous owner's son like to listen to music with heavy bass and push it hard.

my dilemma. is there a tutorial on how to remove the sub? i have a single JL 12w3 in a sealed box and JL J2 500.1 monoblock amp to go with it (it's actually mounted on top of the box). should i just throw that in the trunk and tap a low level signal and call it a day? or should i find a free air replacement? would the ML sub hole be sufficient enough for a port into the car? i test fit the sub box with amp mounted on top of the box and if the ML sub is removed, it will fit right in the center straight back against the seat back, or i can leave it as far left or right. is there a tutorial on taping a signal for external amp?

any other recommendations? thanks for your help in advance.

There are a few tutorial on how to get to the sub. I let you do search yourself. As far as running a free air woofer look into Kicker Comp Vr. I have a 10 inch in place of the OEM woofer. You can put in a 12 if you choose but either way you will need to make a baffle to fit one into the existing OEM space.

I recomend the LOC (line out converter) setup if you choose to go with any aftermarket wooofer. I had the kicker running from my OEM amp and of course it sounded weak. Setting up the amp is always, "+" to batter and "-" to ground. For the "remote" I tap it into the cigarette outlet. Seal box or free air is up to you. I would perfer a seal box sound over free air but than again free air free up the trunk and less work involved. Also when chooseing a LOC dont buy the cheap stuff. Do your research or ask a local shop that is reputable to recomend one. Good luck.
