The guy I purchased my GS3 from had installed a rear spoiler on it. It was a Lexus installed, Lexus spoiler. The problem is when you shut the trunk, it will shut with such force that you think the spoiler is gonna snap off. Obviously, there needs to be more tension on the trunk lid. I've fiddled with those arms but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Any ideas before I forget and shut the trunk normally and watch my spoiler break off&$&*?

I have a 99 GS300 with a GS400 rear spoiler on it. I had it installed by my dealer and they had to make an adjustment to the tension just like you referred to. I'm sure somebody on here can explain how to do it.

For your new spoiler you will need to open your trunk, and take a look under the decklid (not the trunklid). There will be 2 thin round bars going across the decklid (with a plastic retainer clip/guide in the center). Follow those to the right and left sides of the rear quarter panels behind the trunk carpeting/mat. You will notice they are attached to a hanger with 3 holes in it. The initial factory setting is usually in the center, pull the bar out (be careful it is the spring/tension rod that holds the trunk so it is under tension. MOVE it to the BOTTOM hole (you will see that it takes a little more effort to move it there than it would to the top hole) Repeat on the other side. THis will give you the added bit of tension to keep your trunk from SLAMMING down when open, but it actually could use a little more. Finally make sure the rods are still lined up in the center plastic retaining guide.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.

Very good writeup Johnny... for those that need pictures too (like me) Dex did a DIY post with pics a while back (CLICK HERE for link )
BTW gebo, while searching for this thread, I found an earlier similar post by you from last February on the same topic! Good think you haven't lost a hand or something in your trunk since then!

I'm bringing it to the mechanic this coming weekend to take a look at this "vibration" thing even though it has not yet happened to me. I'll mention it to him. Thanks.

No kidding. I guess it's better like that though because it's an easier excuse to not have one on in the front.
