Replacing the ECU with a used one? Also, cig fuse keeps blowing out.
I recently bought a silver 98 GS400 from a member here and i have a couple problems, and my key won't program, but he said he took the ECU out once and it blew a couple fuses, but anyway
i have 2 problems
1. my master key, doesnt unlock or lock the door when i press the button, i have to manually do that... i searched around and tried to do the tutorial but it still wont program.. i also have a spare ECU with a master key
my question is, can i just program my current master key so that it works? why doesnt the tutorial work?
if i can't can i just replace the old ECU with the new one and itll work?? it came with a master key... will i have to reflash the ECU or anything like that? how do i do that? Also how do i program the key that cme with it to work?
2. the 15a cig fuse and the 7.5a fuse above it keeps blowing out, even when i put on new ones, i want to be able to use the cig lighter to charge my phone.. where do i start by looking for the problem?
ive tried searching everywhere, if anyone can help that would be great

I wouldn't think that the ecu would be the cause of the cig lighter popping fuses. Most likely a short. If the car has had any stereo or accessory rewiring or tapping done in the past it could be a lose or exposed wire or connection.
I would start super easy for that one, just use a meter to check the power feed to the cig lighter and see if it reads a short.
I've seen like three different tutorials for programming keys on this board, that each have slightly different steps for some reason. I have not had to try to reprogram anything yet, but just a thought to may look up and try a different tutorial.
