It's called a bracket fan sub assembly. It looks like this on the diagram.

You tried running next step thicker oil?? This can help smoothing out with piston slap or wrist pin knock.

At certain rpm's/temps you could here the wristpins in my previous Ranger and a thicker oil pretty much eliminated it.

How many miles do you have?

That engine is sick.... But I have to try thicker oil. Honestly I am not even sure what oil my mechanic put I'm there.

What viscosity do you guys think I should put?

Next step would be checking that bracket

Btw the car only has 129k miles. it wasn't doing this when I got it a year and a half ago

I also forgot to mention that engine only makes the sound when it is warm. when it is cold I cannot hear anything, when the engine is running for at least 20 minutes that's when I hear it.

oil cap on our cars state 5W-30. so its safe to assume your mech puts in that.. hopefully. But the next step up from that is 5W something higher than 30.

just read your last post.. if its cold maybe try out a thicker starting weight?

10w-30 maybe?

@HI98GS that is a sick engine dude fair play

@OP Sounds a bit like piston slap :/ what you could try is, run an engine oil flush (i recommend BG "quick clean for engines" if you can source it) for 10mins (with the oil you have in the car now, if less than 5k miles old) drain it, and replace with (along with new filter) with 10w40 semi synthetic and use a bottle of engine oil additive, not sure what brands you have over there but here in ireland i use BG MOA in my shop, just did it in my new gs300 last night which was suffering a little from a bearing knock when starting from cold, and worked a treat, might maybe work out for you!

I think my mechanic uses at least 10w 30 for most cars he services .... His mechanic shop deals strictly with lexus vehicles.... So I know he puts a recommended oil weight in there.
just that I'm not sure exactly what he put in my car...

Is there anyone else that thinks that the thicker oil will alleviate piston slap?

my question would be... what exactly causes piston slap on our engines?
