Took the car in for the 120K service: anyone know of a good mechanic?

The labour rate, depending on how lon it's being worked on for sounds about on par. When I used to work for Toyota service department we used to charge $132/hr or so. I don't have the service books with me at the moment but I think it was about 1.2 or so, but with all the additional work you're looking to get done I think would be easily at least 5 hours or so.
Unless you're getting a super deal from your dealer I'd be looking somewhere else to get the work done.

Aside from the service ('99GS400, btw), the following issues came up:
Ball Joints (have to do): 648$
Engine Mounts: 742$
Trans Pan something: 495$
Upper Control Arm: 1900+labor
unfound Oil Leakage: ~six hr labor (124$/hr), not including the cost of the part
I'm getting the Trans problem done first, but the rest i think i'm going to go back to school, get a degree in auto mechanics and then fix the car myself.
I mean, i love this car, but that's a down payment on a newer car (E class, 5series or GS350).
Now to give the wife the good news...

why are the upper control arms so much? this is what i found online...
48630 ARM ASSY, FRONT SUSPENSION, UPPER LH **630-39055 1 1997.08-2005.01 JZS160, UZS16# $536.85 $425.32
48610 ARM ASSY, FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER, RH **610-39085 1 1997.08-2005.01 JZS160, UZS16# $536.85 $425.32
do yourself a favor and run away from that place very quickly... if none of the NY recommendations work out... i got a really good guy in North NJ near Newark Airport... he has been doing all my work for over 10 years now and only charges $75-85/hr labor... when it comes to timing belt service, i usually just buy all the OEM stuff and bring it to him and he only charges me like $300 for the labor... that is hard to beat!!!
