Default re-thread spark plug

Does anyone ever had to re-thread their spark hole? I had a spark plug come loose on my cylinder number 6. I reinserted it back and a couple of weeks later, it came back out again. I'm curious, do I need to re-thread or can I just replace the copper insert tube that holds the spark plug?

When I say the copper insert, I'm talking about the long copper tube that sticks out from the head and out the valve cover, the part where you drop the plugs into. ( I have the 3uz engine.)

I've search the 2gs thread and didn't find anything. It's gonna be a pain in the *** to repair since it's so deep and narrow.

Thanks. I'm looking to avoid rethreading if possible. But if not, then I'd like to use the time-sert tools.
http://www.timesert.com/

does anyone know if our thread is m14x1.5 for the spark plug hole?

based on this picture, it might have to be re-threaded... doesn't seem those tube screw out.
edit.. picture removed due to copyright. can be found here

like did it literally com out of the hole? or is it extremely loose after some time?

If it is extremely loose after some time, I have heard of the remedy of using a medium to small amount(on the spark plug threads itself) of the small square packets of the silver-ish brake anti squeak paste(Autozone/Oreily's/Pep Boys). Its the stuff you put in between the back of the brake pad and the thin brake pad back plate to prevent vibrations and squeaks.

I know you probably didn't want to hear it but, but I am just trying to help with out you having try and re-thread and possibly ruin the head.(if a mistake does happen you can remove the head find someone to re-weld the spark hole with the appropriate aluminum, then have a specialist try to tap/re-thread the head.)

Praying this works for you.

The first time I reinserted the spark plug, I can hear a slight air leak from that hole#6. The only thing keeping it in there is coil pack and it's 10mm bolt. I will check it out this weekend but I'm pretty sure it came out. I don't know about removing the head, looks difficult. I'm hoping to do it with a threading kit. Thanks.

well putting some of that paste on the spark plug then re-inserting could not hurt.
But best of luck.

I will try that out. But seems like a temporary fix. Thanks for the suggestion.

Did you used a breaker bar to torque those or you just got strong hands?

X2 on the timeserts.
Use grease and vacuum out the cylinder when finished.

Good luck

I ripped the r40 neo chro in half by hand, no extensions used... I'm a buck 25

btw, don't ever let the tire shop use air gun to tighten your lug. It took me several hours to remove them off my wheels (with super long breaker bar too). With lubrication spray along the way.

Thanks for the suggestion and lead guys. I couldn't find timesert locally so I bought some off brand stuff, not even helicoil.

anyhow, the kit you would be looking for are m14 x 1.25 if anyone is trying to service a toyota. But a better idea it to try a chaser first before doing rethread. I think I'm beyond chaser now since I reinstalled it after it popped out. I could have saved some headache.
