it faster to drive GS4 in auto mode or E-Shift mode?
Leave it in D. Most people here cannot shift at EXACTLY 6250 RPM, and half the time the GS shifts under redline because it is rarely punched to do so.

I'm sorry I didn't understand your answer. For the average driver, auto is faster?

Yes. Auto will always be fast. I always roll my eyes when people mention they race in E-Shift. I think they just want to feel more important.

I agree, except under circumstances that are not always mad line dashes into infinity. i.e. curvy / weaving, highway, etc

Hey, its OK to feel more important

Also, don't forget about the weight differences. GS is about 400lb heavier than G35. May even be more heavier than G35 coupe.

Default bro....

You've got an automatic, race him from a stop. He's not a better driver than a computer I promise you.

E-Shift--one of the most important components for serious racing.

It gives you more control over your power and torque range. Or GS 400 does not shift to third gear when you are going 78mph. Use e-shift to third and you will get the added power. In a serious race with traffic e-shift is a must.

Don't use e-shift.....(1.) There are no cars before you and there is open high way. (2.) When you are doing your quarter mile runs.

t/c , exhaust, SRt intake you will pull. If your that worried about racing a 4 door go all out rear diff, brakes, full suspension, and oh yeah 175hp shot of NOS for $3,500.00 should even put M5's in your rear view mirror.

People,

My good friend just got the new Z and it's a swift car. But to me, how fast can you pull and if there is not enough road distance for you to pull to 100+mph. With the traffic congestion in the Bay Area these days, I rather be in a "Pimp Daddy" car like the GS then the G35. Don't get me wrong, the G35 is very elegant and unique. But I think the G35 is for the wifes.

Once you drive the GS, GS is for life.

If he races you with a brand new car he's not thinking right. Sounds like he doesn't know about the critical first few thousand miles on a new engine and transmission. Also, if the G35 is like every other engine, the peak performance comes after the break in period. You should educate your friend before he ruins his new wheels.

And yeah, I'd still rather drive the GS.

Like Murph said he isn't a racer or he would know not to take his car over 75mph within the first 5000miles. Once his engine is broken end hopefully you would have put in a srt intake and a tc with a greddy exhaust.
Even if he beats you a hundred times who cares? You own a car that is considered the best luxor sport sedan (not counting the the new 5 or new E, due to the fact lexus hasn't submitted a third gen. GS yet)

G35 is $20,000 less than GS!!!
If Lexus will continue to raise the sticker of GS, as they have done for 2003, G35 (6-speed) has a very good chance to be my next car.
No question GS is more unique, G35 is more mainstream, but with $20K to spare one can turn it into M-5 contender with few thousands left. Plus, think of Nissan/Infinity quality, which is at par with Lexus. I owned 3 Maximas and never had a slightest problem with a car. Just my two cents....

I have owned an Infiniti and never had problems with it either. Dealership experience has been nearly as good as my Lexus Experience...just the G20 loaners sucked...

I would have no qualms buying an Infiniti. I'm kinda looking foward to the M45...since I know what CAN be done to the car...definitely not a looker when stock...
