Default Think the new 2003 Nissan G35 6speed coupe take my GS400???

I have a 98 GS400...and I also have a buddy who is planning to get the new G35 coupe when it comes out...From what I heard it's supposed to have the same 287hp 3.5l engine as the new 350z. I'm not sure of the weight if the car though. My friend is talking MAJOR trash...He says that it'll be no competition and that when he races me, that he's gonna make my L fall off...I know that the GS has a 300HP engine, but that 6speed tranny sounds deadly...So what do you say...how do you think the race will turn out?

Default Any 3.5 VQ car is FAST!

Car will be de-tuned for 270hp. The G35 now is VERY swift and if u sleep u may lose. I imagine the 6-speed will be a high 5 sec car. The current new Z does the 0-60 sprint in 5.4-5.6. So a heavier, larger car with less hp will be slightly slower.

Freeway speeds, the G35 is also swift, u basically have to floor your car the whole time. I know, I've raced it from a standstill and at over 110mph.....

He needs to quit talking trash though, considering the interior, re-sale value and that Infiniti is a 2nd tier Luxury car maker.

So, let's see.

You - 1998
Him - 2002/3

You - Sport Sedan
Him - Sport Coupe

You - Auto
Him - Stick

You - Lexus
Him - Infiniti

It's important to keep things in perspective.

Even if you loose, you won't get your butt handed to you, and more importantly, you'll still drive the Lexus home.

Talking

It'll be close either way and will come down to driver and even car-to-car variations.

The G looks like a pretty decent effort by Nissan/Infiniti but as Dex pointed out, at the end of the day, you still drive the Lexus.

I think it depends on how good a driver he is. The G35 certainly looks very fast on paper although you have a shot if a long race. The Twin Turbo version of that motor which is going into the new SKyline and hopefully the 350Z is going to be the one that will demolish you. Too bad we're at least 2 years away from seeing it in the US if at all. It's undergoing final testing in Japan already.

i think it would be too close to call. the 350Z does the 1/4 mile around 14.0 @ 99mph. add some weight and subtract a few hp like 1sicklex mentioned, and the G35 coupe should run neck and neck with the GS. it certainly will not be an ***-kicking either way.

I think the 6 speed G35 with 287h.p will beat the GS. I race the 2002 six speed maxima with 255lb. It was dead even from 55mph to 87mph. Then I started to pull away slightly. After 115 he was 3 car lengths behind. Then at 145 mph....hmmm...he was a dot in my rearview mirror.

I think this with the added hp and better drag coefficient the G35 coupe will beat the GS400 from 55mph to 127mph. I think the cars will be even from 127mph to 149mph just my 2 cents.

I can speak for the G35 sedan, auto...My buddy races me all the time. I have a 99 GS4 and depending on the launch, he is usually off my rear quarter panel, almost to my rear view mirror. Lets call it "the blind spot" If I really hit the light, I am a full car length, no gaining or losing ground once we hit about 40-50. Last week we took it up to 110, same thing. These cars are amazingly similiar in 0-100, 1/4 mile, 0-60, everything...I doubt if I lined up against another stock GS4, it would be much closer!!!

But, that being said, he drives an Infiniti, I DRIVE A LEXUS!!!

Is it faster to drive GS4 in auto mode or E-Shift mode? Can someone fill me in! And why doesn't the GS4 have a 1st gear on the E-Shift mode, I think this sucks big time. I rode in the new 03' E-Class today and it had a first gear for manual mode. I think new E-Class is stupid, even though it's a big improvement. (It had the IS300 set climate controls, which is BS).
Also do you guys think the new M45 is going to kick GS4 assss. The new M45 is suppose to be lighter and quicker than the Q, which means the GS4 is in big trouble! Q and GS are already neck and neck.

G35 coupe drag is .29, the GS 400 is .28, the GS 430 is .29

This ain't the Lincoln Town car V-8. Our V-8 over their V-6 at high speeds= advantage us. I paced (well he paced me ) a G35 sedan to 110+ and he could not gain at all. The sedan is more aerodynamic than the coupe.

No, it's another 340hp DUD. THe M45 and all it's 340 hp did a 0-60 run in 6.1 sec in Oct. Road and Track. They were getting 6.6 and 6.7 times until they ran it IN THE MORNING (cold air I guess). They said the car rolls a bunch in corners. It is basically a fast cruiser similar to the TL Type-S.
