Default 1999 gs300 problem

I have a 1999 gs 300. The original problem i had was i went to start my car and it started fine the i noticed the battery light was on so i put the car in reverse and the steering wasn't moving. Then i found out the water pump bracket that holds the alternator and water pump together was broken and the belt was off as well. I couldn't drive the car so i had it towed to the repair shop. While at the repair shop the mechanic said and i seen him do it a million times trying to put the timing belt on and he asked other mechanics as well if the timing belt was on and they all said yes. So he finished and went to crank it up and it wouldn't start. After that he did a compression test and there was no pressure. Now he is saying that i need another engine. my question is why would it have started up the first time and do i really need another engine?

sounds fishy to me. Ask him for all the compression numbers by cylinder. Post them here if possible.

also ask him for a thorough explanation of WHY and what exactly is the reason for needing a whole new engine.

He did a compression test by trying to start it up i dont think he did it for each cylinder. All i seen was that he put the psi reader in the middle of the engine and tried starting it and there was nothing moving on the indicator

First: I'd run from this guy as fast as possible.
Second: What do you mean "how it should be"?

I can go take a picture of my 100% stock gs300 right now. What ever you need.

I just realized you said timing belt, my mistake. I'm not going to take off the cover to show mine.

BUT, heres a pretty good picture I found. Does this help? This is what it should look like.

So you went in to have a bracket fixed so the serpentine drive belt will be aligned correctly, and the mechanic did a timing belt job instead and did not know how to properly do it? And now he is saying you need a new engine?

Did I get that right?? Please clarify.

Sounds like your mechanic bent some valves. And he is the one that needs a new engine to fix your car...
