I used a paper towel to remove the paint. Washed the grill with soap and water, and viola. Bling Bling, nice gromed grill. Put it back on. I keep getting compliments from this mod. Cost $7, satisfaction, priceless

vaki/rominl,

i'm a novice to do-it-yourself modifications, and am highly interested in chroming my existing gs300 grill asap. i've read the instructions for using the various gel paint removers noted here, and feel comfortable about doing it myself, but can either of you instruct me on how to properly remove my grill and reinstall it once i'm done?

(i'm also a novice to this site, so apologies if this question has been asked and answered in a previous thread.)

thanks,

geeesstray

Wow. What an old thread. Anyway, try looking here for some info about removing the grille.

Grill Removal

The DIY is easy so no need to get a grille from that site. Just look at the FAQ for grille removal. Pretty straightforward actually.

Good luck.

Just remove 2-10mm bolts that hold the latch, then remove 5-10mm nuts that hold the grill. Then remove the phillip head screw that hold the "L" emblem. Oh, and welcome to CL.

The previous post inspired me to make the most of the first decent day in NJ and strip the grill. Went to home depot bought the same stuff as the above post and within 15 minutes it was stripped.
The results are unbelievable...check it out for yourself

Mumbles,

I have a 1990 Ls400 and I was wondering if you would know if the grill on my LS is like your GS grill with being all chrome and just painted in the insert? I would like to make my grill all chrome also.

Looks good did the same tomine. I got the tip from this site in that do it yourself page. People ask me
who done it for me. Lot of work took me a couple of hours.
