Default Could i buy a GS300 and make it as fast as the 430

I know, it may be a silly question but as some may know I have a TL-s w/ headers, intake, etc.. W/ that in mind, can u make the 300 faster w/ headers, chip, intake, etc... B/c the 430 is almost 48k, and the 300 is 35k, and the real difference aside from the rims is the motor, being a 4.3..So can u modify the car so u can save some$???

$13K diff? I don't think so.
Edmunds says:
$36916 is average selling price for BASE GS300
$44703 is average selling price for BASE GS430

That's less than $8K diff. which is what I expected. I expect you'll spend as much if not more to make a GS300 as fast as a GS430. You will also have voided the engine warranty too.

Now it's true that more new GS430's will only be available loaded than GS300's, but then it's not a direct comparison.

If you buy used then the price gap is even less between GS300 and GS4x0's.

Actually the SRT stage I turbo kit(360hp) is $3995 and labor to install is $540 so you could have a mid 13s GS3 for under $4550(much less than the $8k difference). There are also cheaper routes that would involve more time and work like buying the parts on your own and installing it yourself, etc...

Lot's across the U.S.(and many more outside of the U.S.). On this forum alone there is v300, buckwild, lexlyf, mcnelson, jtanoyo1, and more that I can't remember and/ or don't know of. There are quite a few all over the U.S. and a bunch running around the Lauderdale/ Miami area done by Toyomoto. I have seen a few in the 600hp range... and there are some running much higher hp. There are also a bunch of turbo IS300/ SC300 guys around... some on CL are SC300T, EmoDragRacer, "M" Killer, Cariza, VeilsideRSPsc, smooth8, philauldridge, SC300tt, just to name a few, there are many more though.

"Lots" is relative, and I expect most if not all the turbo'd GS300 owners are on here. I'd be surprised if there's more than a couple dozen.

Trust me it's more than a "couple dozen" and most turbo'd GS300 owners are not on CL

Default Agree

I would agree-abour 99.9% of the people I bump into have never heard of CL. Of course I invite them over during the course of conversation.
We only represent a very small fraction of those that modify their Lexus's. But...growing.

"lots" is relative, but that's off-topic anyhow. he's just asking if he could get a 300 faster than the v8 for less, and the answer is a resounding yes. people talk about turbo'd v-8, and that's even more rare.

for clarification, the SRT stage one gives 360 at the crank and ~275 at the rear wheels.

You'll probably need this engine (2jz-gte) or parts of this engine.

Im considering getting a turbo slapped onto my motor but don't know if there is any kits out there. . Another plan was to swap in the Supra turbo motor. . Shops i was considering in doing ths job were CarTune, EL Prototypes, or SP engineering. . any feedback will be great. . . When i tell my friends that i want to turbocharge my car, they disagree and say that my car is for cruishing only. . All of them have sports cars and everything, all boosted, excepted mines. . My goal is to beat my friends in a race with 3 passengers in the car while they are watching a movie and the system bumpin! ! haha, that'll be so cool. .

Guys, let me ask you something, a friend of mine has a 98 GS300 but with high mileage (95k). Do you think its a bad idea to add a turbo or a supercharger with mileage that high? Usually people add one of these two on a low mileage car. He is really considering driving down to SRT and have one of these two installed.

Any feedback is appreciated.
