Call me crazy – Manual transmission in GS430 – Is it possible?
I'm a long time enthusiast of Toyota, I have owed a 1984 Supra, 1990 Celia GT-4 and now the 2002 Lexus GS430. I think Toyota are the best made cars on the market, and I appreciate quality and customer service, what I don't appreciate is lack of passion/
I have fixed my own cars for almost 10 years, and most of my friend's cars as well, so I am very competent with tools, unfortunately I only own the basic tools for car repairs, no welder and no lift.
There is one thing that really bothers me about the GS430: There is no manual transmission!
(and it could use about another 100hp to be really interesting, but that's another story).
I still think the 2GS is one of the best looking cars on the road, and I don't say that because I own one, I own one because that's how I feel. I could get used to a 3GS, and the pictures of the 4GS make me sad.
I am now reaching a point in my life where I could get a newer car, maybe an Infiniti M45x, or a GS450h, but what I really, really, really want is a manual-transmission 2002 black on black GS430, fortunately I already own the car, I just need the transmission.
Could someone please point me in the right direction on this project, I would like to keep the 3UZFE and a completely stock interior, except the shifter. I have access to water-jets and CNC-plasma cutters, so custom mounts is not a problem, I am an Electronics Technologist, so electrical is not a problem.
I just don't even know where to start.
A 6-speed manual, maybe from the Supra would be nice.
I could probably also be talked into a very fast shifting e-shifter option, but I understand the Lexus GS e-shifter is slow. (every car I have tried is slow... 2006 G35, 2006 M35, 1999 Porsche 911, GS450h... 2011 MB E550 wasn't bad)

I looked around this site a lot and didn't see anything, so I hope I am not duplicating info:
IS300 with a 3UZFE and 6-speet tranny from the Supra (V160) (start around 7:00):

Looking into RMM (Rod Millen Motorsport) IS430. They took a motor out of a gs430 and transplanted it into a is300 and made it a 6 speed. So yes it's possible.
