Default High brake light and LEDs on spoiler? Fix?

I have a the factory spoiler and the center high brake light inside the back window on the rear deck of my 98 GS4.

Has anyone removed the inside light and just left the LED lights on the spoiler? Is there a how-to and does it leave marks on the rear deck?

Couldn't find anything using search. Thank for any advice!

There are several options here.

1. Order a new deck from the dealer. $$$.
2. Get a relay from the dealer or modify the relay in the trunk.
There was a how to on a japanese site (aristo) but I don't speak japanese.
3. I just poped out the inside brake light and put black tape inside the lens. Two plus years and no problems or smells.
I also have tint so you can't even see the inside 3rd brake light.

All the GS's are wired the same (as far as the lighting system). Even if you have the factory spoiler or the inside brake light. The inside brake light can be disabled by just unplugging it. The problem is that in order to get at the plug you may need to remove the deck. This means removing the back seats, then removing the side pillar covers then sliding out the rear deck. You can try to just remove the brake light, but it may be kinda tightly fitted and you may crack your deck. The spoiler light is also a plug in deal. The plug is located on the drivers side of the trunk. It is a small plug close to the inner tail light wires. As mentioned before, if you remove the rear inside light, there will be a hole where it was previously located. Just disable it and leave the inner brake light in place

Default Simple

Your can easily remove the rear brake light assembly by inserting a flat blade screwdriver carefully under the front edge and lifting. Lexus recommends covering the screwdriver tip with cloth so as not to scratch anything.

I bought a new rear Package shelf and wired an aftermarket light assembly, mounted inside the trunk, into the circuit so the bulb fault wouldn't come on with the parkage shelf brake light disconnected.

Default Thanks...

I think I'll wait until I plan for a few extra days to clean up the damage in case I do any..

Sounds like a mess though to really remove the 3rd brake light assembly entirely.

BTW - anybody know what year GS they stopped putting in the 3rd light if you got the spoiler?

If the GS came with a factory spoiler it never got the interior 3rd light. I too have had my entire interior decklid changed in order to "delete" the interior 3rd light. It's not cheap, it all depends on how much it(2 brakelights) bothers you.

Two lights bother me too. I've currently got my rear decklid brake light blacked out, but plan to replace my entire rear deck. You can likely get it done much cheaper at a higher end stereo shop than ordering a replacement deck from Lexus.

Basically, the shop will pull off the deck and re-cover it (including firming the hole where the light was), and fasten the light underneath so that the dash bulb warning light does not come on. I'm getting mine done partially for the light and partially to get the deck lid dynamatted to stop rattling from my sub. I believe the price that I was quoted was about $200.

Now I've just got to make some time to get this done myself!
