Default Question on shaving rear fenders.

Just a quick question.. I read up CarbonGS's rear fender shave and saw that he only did about half an inch though. My question is how much can you shave on the rear without getting into the weld and splitting the metal? I know in the front you can just shave the whole thing off and be all gravy, but the rears aren't the same.

If anyone is able to answer this question thanks in advance. Planning on shaving my rears this weekend and want to take off as much as possible without splitting the metals.

I cut mine pretty close without any problems, about 1/8" left. Used an angle grinder. Just be careful of the spots where the clips were, that's where the fenders are more likely to dimple.

You do them the same as the fronts.I had mines done at shop.the air saw wrks faster &cleaner than the dremel. He also had a very steady hand!

On my GS, I rolled the front and cut the rears. By using an air saw, I felt like I had more control. I would'nt worry about the welds and stuff. The metal so thick it wont hurt it. You can find a recipricating air saw at harbor freight for around 20 bucks. Imo, the grinder is too much drama with sparks flying around and with a dremel it takes forever. Oh yeah, I used a fender roller and a heat gun for the fronts.

There's actually adhesive between the inner and outer panel, so cutting out the welds will not split the panel apart. The only way I can see it pulling apart would be an accident that buckles your quarter panels.
