Need help with telescopic wheel
Hey guys i have 98 gs and my wheel was perfectly fine till lastnight, it only moves back and forth and doesnt go up or down. Any ideas what the problem could be?.i tried pressing the button down 9 times and it doesnt seem to go down or up.
guys pls help, the wheel is stuck to high up and its uncomfortable to drive............thanks

This happened to me a while back. Take the steering collumn apart (cover behind steering wheel, and i think the upper part of the foot pannel), whip it down and regrease it. I think i remember pulling the motor out too and regreasing it. It wasnt that bad, probably a 10 minute job. I used lithium grease spray. For mines the old grease started to harden and wouldnt let it move.

Once the steering column shell is off, you need to remove the silver motor, it's tube looking closest to the dash, but on the column. Take it out, clean and regrease it. The copper contacts are more than likely filthy and full of gunk. It's fun and easy.

It looks something like this. **NOTE** this is just a generic pic. I'm not sure what model Lexus this is from, however they all appear to be similar.

Thanks for the pic. I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend. Hopefully the screws come out OK. I have tried removing a window regulator motor on a 1994 Toyota Camry and it was impossible to remove the screws without stripping the heads.
