thanks a lot guys for all the advice, it helped a lot and served as a good starting point. admittedly, i know i don't know that much at all about my new car or the mechanics of cars at all. However, i find forums, such as ones like this, to be an easy and helpful place to start research and a good place to ask questions. i appreciate the help and ill make sure to look around before posing any simple questions. Thank you.

I too am a new owner of a 2nd Gen GS but have been modding cars for quite a while now
Some basic rules are try to get an idea of what your final goal is for the car,
say for example, if you plan to do a swap or do a NA-T, it'd be kind of a waste to start putting things like intakes and headers because that stuff won't be usable in the end result so instead of spend x amount of dollars on these little bolt on mods you can put it towards the final product instead.
you don't have to follow it but my suggestion is if you want to turbo your current motor or swap a GTE in there, just keep your motor well maintained and drive it!
