CAD plated rotors? Do they rust???
A while back, there was a group buy on drilled / slotted CAD plated rotors. Just wondering, as time went by, did any members find them to rust like the stock rotors?
I think the rust from the lexus rotors ruins the way my car looks.
Also, I heard some people painted their rotors, did the paint stick or did the rust come back?
Thanks

I know cadmium doesn't rust, but because the rotors were only "plated" with it, I'm worried that after time the plating would not hold and rust will form in those areas.
Also, I plan on using the factory brake pads with the cross drilled rotors to minimize brake dust, good idea?
Thanks

Here at Stillen we use cad plating on our Sport Rotors, and I've yet to hear anything negative about them. However, I'm not certain with the stock pads...we recommend using our Metal Matrix pads with the Sport Rotors. We are actually giving them away with the purchase of a set of Sport Rotors, which are now 10-20 percent off list.

Cad plating
GS4to4,
a friend of mine has the cad plated rotors on his 3000GT, they eventually will start to break through the coating and rust. Best bet is while you have them off the car is to invest a little time and prep/paint them yourself for some added protection from rusting.

The set of front rotors (if memory serves me right) is $320 a pair, and the rear rotor set is $330. Pads are included in the price, and there is a 10-20 percent discount going on as well. The only other upgrade you may want to consider with the mony you save are the Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Lines, and new Motul 600 brake fluid, but that is totally up to you.

Get a hold of Steve Ganz at Carson Toyota for the cross-drilled/slotted rotors, CAD plated...
Don't quote me, but it is around 300.00 for all four rotors...and like 100.00 for the front pads...like 80.00 for the rear EBC green pads...
SUPRATRD is his CL name.

I just purchased & installed my drilled/slotted/cad plated rotors from Steve Ganz for $349 for all four, with Supra size rotors up front. The stock size set of four cost $299 during the group buy offer, which is now over.
Steve has extended the GB pricing until Oct. 31st, if you mention the CL Nor-Cal meet Special discount, which offered the following deal:
- GS cross/slotted,CAD plated silver-$299.00 set (4)
- GS/Supra Upgrade,cross/slotted,CAD plated $349.00 (4)
- IS cross/slotted,CAD plated silver-$299.00 set (4)
- SC300/400-cross/slotted,CAD plated silver-$325.00 set (4)
Mention the flyer when ordering.
Offer Good until Oct. 31, 2002
As far as rust is concerned, the jury is out until someone gets more milage on these rotors to see how they will last over time. Cadmium itself may not rust, but the plating quality on the rotors will affect whether they rust over the years.
From what has been posted on several threads in the past, it appears the EBC Green pads should dust less than any other pad out there, including stock.

Thanks for all that info.
Will the Supra sized rotors work with the stock calipers?
Will they clear the stock 17's? I'm going to be running H&R spacers in the back if it helps.
Also, since I just bought new brake pads, should I continue using them, or is there a reason to use the EBC together with the
new cross drilled rotors?

No & No,
Gotta buy the larger 4 piston calipers with the rotors and aftermarket wheels that are designed to fit a Supra TT. Don't even think about spacers.
Factory pads won't hurt anything, it just that the EBC's are the preferred pad when it comes to low dust combined with better performance, so if you can return the other pads then make the switch. I don't know what you paid for factory pads, but the EBC's cost $89 F & $59 R.
