Click on the link I posted. It contains a diagram.

Gonna bump this up because one of my rear doors don't turn on the lights when you open it but the rear map/dome light does come on when you press in the button. I really don't have much money to replace a part not knowing if it's going to solve the issue. I have a 98' as well.

I think my prob is the door switches in the latches. I removed one door and pulled the plug to the switch and jumped the wires together. It turned the lights on. I still have to check the other door yet. Just a update. The latches ate so darn expensive. Watching for some takeouts cause I don't think u can take them apart and clean. I tried.

Anyone ever come up with a solution to this problem? I have a 98 and it's doing the same thing. Opening either rear door does not turn on the dome or door courtesy lights.

Is the door open/closed switch located in the door latch?

Yes, the door ajar switch is part of the door lock actuator.

Did it fail for you recently? I ask as there was a problem with that switch in early production models (we are talking about '98 model ). Lexus replaced the actuator under warranty.

GS seems to the only model with no trunk open indicator in the dash. Dont tell me that it was also an early production issue too.
