Smile OEM HID To Aftermarket HID DIY w/Pics

I don't know if anyone need this information or not but I'm going OEM HID to aftermarket HID. One of the ballast burned out...or bulb... I didn't bother to look. I order the 55w 6000k Slim Hid D2R Kit from DDM tuning.

YES YOU DO HAVE TO TAKE OFF YOUR BUMPER AND HEADLIGHTS, or maybe not. I did. here are the steps.

The DDM tuning ballast headlight harness input is a 9006 input. So i went out to the junkyard and ****** me a 9006 harness

I cut my OEM HID harness and connected it with the 9006 harness (You can just cut off the OEM connector entirely and splice it to the 9006 by itself if you're planning to save your OEM HID. I wasn't planning to so I did it the way I did it. I don't know why I even did it the way I did it)(should have cut if off entirely.)

Just connect these bastards together like so...

And then connect your harness and you're done. Find some good double sided tape and mount the Ballast somewhere.

Are you sure that the voltage that you've ramped up there (55w) won't burn your existing wiring?

I been driving for a couple of days with them and everything is fine. It didn't generate that much heat. I would say less heat than my gf GS which is running on halogen bulbs. I didn't really care about the wires, the gs stock headlights are already fused. If you're unsure about it you can run your own fuse. If there is a problem you can look in the fuse box. The HID kit that burns your wiring are the one that is connected directly to the battery.

The one thing I didn't like is that DDM tuning shipped my HID from China in a China BOX with Chinese stuff written on it.....Which i thought was kind of weird. They won't let you do local pick up or sell you HID in their store front anymore....

And what about mounting the ballast where the OEM ballast is located? On the headlight.

Post pics of before and after night shots. I heard 55w ballasts burn out quickly and produce too much glare.

Yeah, I'd be curious to see this as well. I run the exact same kit in my fogs which are on all the time. In 6 months and figure they are on about 3+ hours a day I've had no issues with them. As far as the lense or bezel melting, I've seen it happen with people that "seal" the headlight (the little rubber "L"s on the back of the light. I haven't seen one damaged that left the vents in place. Right now, if I drive with just the fogs on at night I have really good visibility, kick on the factory HID and there is a bit more fill but not much. I'd be curious to see what the difference is with the 55 watt headlights.

Personally (like I did on the fogs) I would just run a dedicated pair of relays that use the stock wiring for trigger and then pull 12 volts from the battery for the new ballasts. Not sure if it will work on the headlights (the fogs are not monitored for the light out idiot light).....well it would work, but it might throw the idiot light.
