I was planning to get the Lexus one. That way I don't have to hassle with getting claims through a 3rd party. Is that warranty gold a lot cheaper?

Extending to 6 yrs / 70K was $1400 at the dealer I think. More for 6 yrs / 100K or 7 yrs / 100K.

Warranty Gold is a lot better than lexus ext-warr.
You don't need to wait claiming. you just get the dealer to call warranty gold telling them what they need to fix. if it's covered, then they will pay directly to the dealer. You DON"T do any claim at all.

if you modified your car, you want to get aftermarket warranty, because the dealer won't refuse the claim, it's is not their money paying the claim, it's someone else. get it?

I have warranty gold on my other car, works great. 7 years, 100K for $950 full coverage with 0 deductible. Can't beat that man.

you CAN get discount from warranty gold, buy subcribed to their mail list, the send out $200 discount once in a while, that when you go an buy your warranty hee hee, man, I have to tell you all of my secret.

I JUST bought the 5yr./100K Diamond coverage from Warranty Gold(BananaGS and others told me they had good experiences with them....) about 6 weeks ago.
I referred my rep to Ethan who in turn has worked out a 10% discount for all CL members and Warranty Gold is now listed as a CL sponsor...
Here is the link to the thread about the discount: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ann...p?s=&forumid=4
Needless to say the Diamond coverage is available for the "new car" price as long as you buy it before you reach the Lexus 4yr/50k warranty expiration...afterwards you will pay the MORE expensive used car rates. I actually waited til I had 49k. The only advantage to buying before 50k is the price. Either way, the 5yr/100k starts at your factory warranty expiration date.

you can buy the new car rate 1 month or 1K mile before the factory warranty expire (to be exact) but you have to call the dealer to get the exact manufacture expiration date.

Is there a history of problems with GS parts, engines, etc. that would necessitate an extended warranty? Consumer Reports rates the GS as one of the most reliable cars on the road. I have not had to have any repairs to my GS for the 45K I've had it. Also, my parents own a 93 LS400 that has never had a problem.

Is this just a cost/benefit decision?

i love my gs and have had no problems with it but i would rather be safe than sorry whats a grand for piece of mind knowing if i blow my motor tomorrow its covered for free??? versus having to shell out thousands on a motor . i had a mustang before this and it blew the motor twice and radiators heatercores on and on so i would rather pay more for less aggervation thats why i upgraded to a lexus even though it my saleen mustang was more!!!!!

lv2000 is correct.
Even they are is reliable. But one stinking repair will make backfor that 1k ext investment, and you have a few extra year off worry free.

(ie, if you mess up your starter (it happens) it's gonna cost your close to 1K for the dealer to replace a new starter)

PLEASE NOTE, I would suggest to get the 7 years plan, if I remember correctly, ALL extended warranty (including lexus) count the starting date for the warranty is the "in house" service date (ie the date when the car left the manufacture. Thus, MAKE sure you read your contract carefully. (because we already have 4/year warranty from factory already, 5 year from warranty gold is ONE year of real warrant. I don't know if they changed their policy yet, but READ BETWEEN THE LINES. It's NOT 5 year after your manufacture warr is over.

ye, I want my referal fee to ho ho ho:eek:

good luck.

WarrantyGold states the number of years starts from when your WarrantyGold plan starts, not the in-service date of your car. However, the mileage still remains. In other words, if you have 3 years/40K on your car, and buy a WarrantyGold 7 years/70K (hypothetical), your warranty has become 10 years/70K from in-service date.

If I owned a Ford or another less reliable brand and got screwed, I'd probably be preaching extended warranties too. But I've driven Hondas/Toyotas all my life, and it would have been a waste of money every single time if I had purchased extended warranties.

NOPE....such is not the case with WarrantyGold.com This is one of the many questions I addressed before making any decisions.
Im looking at my Diamond policy right now and it reads as follows:
1998 Lexus GS400
Odometer: 49013
Plan: New Diamond
Terms: 5yrs or 100,000
Ex. date: 7/24/2007
Ex. odometer:100,000
Man. warranty info....
In service date: 4/6/1998
Terms: 48 months or 50,000

As you see, the in service date is NOT when the 5yr 100,000k warranty starts. That would be pointless....also the nice thing about the Diamond coverage is it mirrors the "Lexus" coverage....
As for referrals..... If I find that anyone on this board is benefiting(making $$$ from claiming to have made referals) from CL members buying used car warranties through warrantygold.com from the "SPECIFIC" CL discount that ETHAN/MYSELF put together, I will make sure Ethan is prevy to this info and takes appropriate action.

you maybe right, my honda prelude is reaching 90K.
Redline it like crazy, several times a week (the car is modified also)

I haven't been in the dealer for anything yet. (knock on wood)

but, honda is cheaper to repair compare to lexus hee hee
