My Lexus GS600 6-speed on the Dyno!!!

Fascinating build!
I've always wanted to do an LS7 in a 2GS or an E46!
Just curious, how has the rearend/diff held up to the power? I wonder if these diffs would survive some hard launches on drag radials or slicks at the strip.

I would lean towards better fuel maping, and introduction of direct injections.
the 1uz/3uz engines have been around forever. they were developed in the mid to late 90s. where as the ls2 has all the latest technological inventions from the 2000s. basically 10 year difference between the motors.
eg, mb c350's gained 50hp on basically the same motor, but better fuel injection design (introduction of direct injection) all within the same basic model.
direct injection allows for ability to run higher compression, thus higher hp numbers, while fuel mapping and that same direct injection control allows for better mpg.

^Well.....that's that then :I.
Though I thought the 3UZ came out in earn 2000's? Unless you mean the LS2 came out towards the late 2000's which gives it a better legging in the tech race?
And with all else being equal, could Lexus not release a firmware update for the ECU which would reprogram the fuel mapping for older cars to boost mpg/power? Without the need for physical modification?

it comes down to economics. why would a manufacturer come out with new firmware other than to fix a problem? say there was an error in programming causing fuel to dump in too much, or transmission ecu mis-shifting due to temperature senor. those are legit reasons for new firmware updates.
intakes like SRT come with a piggy back ecu that trick and alter the stock ecu.
3uz came out in 2001 for the gs430, not sure where else in the lexus line did it come out. but the 1uz has been around way earlier, like 96? so technically, its a pretty old motor.
the LS2 came out in, I think 2005? and I believe direct injection technology was around. inorder to have it super efficient, it requires a high pressure fuel pump to inject that small amount of fuel at a high dispersal right at the top if the cylinder. that small amount of fuel allows for higher than normal compression and to be able to run even a bit leaner without knock.
anyhow, technology is catching up, look at ford and chevy, coming out with v6 boosted engines putting out numbers in the v8 range.
